I'm usually all about running at the gym but I've been trying to branch out. I took a strictly strength class at lifetime yesterday. Just wanted to say that I've never felt this sore. I'm struggling to pick up the kids. But it's a great feeling. Thanks to all who talked about how great strength training is. Can't wait to do it again.
IMO, it doesn't really get easier. You just lift heavier, faster reps/more reps and recover better.
I've been taking a strength class for over a year and it still kicks my ass. I'm sore about 25% of the time after class if we hit something we'd not in a while. But my weights are heavier, I can do more reps, and I'm stronger.
So easier, no. But there are other marks of improvement.
It will get somewhat better over time, but you'll find yourself picking up heavier and heavier weights, and then the soreness will start all over again. But instead of being the of "crap when did my purse get so heavy" sore, it will be that awesome, "I feel like I'm getting stronger" soreness.
FWIW, I just put running into my strength training on Sunday, and my quads felt like death yesterday. My jump squats were more like little bitty bunny hops last night.
