A LOT of water. Shelf stable soy milk for Ethan. Jerky and tuna and shelf stable protein. Trail mix. Canned vegetables. Dried fruit. Canned Beans. Apple sauce. Granola Bars. Peanut Butter.
And we have camp fans/lights/weather radios/a camp stove/etc since it will inevitably be 100 degrees when we lose power due to a hurricane.
We usually don't have more than water/flashlights and batteries, but that's because after like 4 years in a row getting told over and over that we were going to die, and it turned into a beach day, I have trouble taking it seriously.
But I didn't really come here to answer this.. I came here to say that you need this.
If you plan to evacuate, then you may not really need anything. We always just planned to get out of dodge if there's ever a big storm coming. Having said that, you should have a plan for your kids and your pets.
Otherwise, if you're in an area where you lose power a lot, then flashlights and batteries are good. I really like the ones that plug into the wall and act as night-lights/emergency lights in case the power goes out, then you can unplug them and use them as flashlights. Bottled water for drinking, and some for flushing toilets (if your water goes out when the power goes out).
If you think you're likely to stick it out wherever you are, instead of evacuate, then I would also add non-perishable food, maybe a gas can with a few gallons of gas, possibly a camp stove or generator.
