Who got in? I did. I don't know if I am happy or terrified. After my marathon I thought for sure I was one and done, but I just got a MCM lottery acceptance email.
Congrats! I don't think I got in, but I guess I'll wait until I get that womp womp you lose e-mail.
Maybe they send the emails out in batches and your email hasn't come yet. If I get ku I'll transfer you my number, heck, I'd give you my number if you ran under my name
My sister just got notification that she got it. Apparently notification is going out in batches throughout the day.
I'm planning to travel down to support her. Does anyone who's familiar with the course have any ideas on the best places to stay so that we can watch the race without having to do much traveling around the area?
apparently, ebeth should not be leaving whether she runs another marathon up to the lottery gods because the lottery gods always say YES EBETH. YES YOU SHOULD RUN ANOTHER MARATHON.

Old Town Alexandria! We were coming from Maryland, but parked in Virginia. It was easy, and a straight shot on the metro. My H and DD cheered us on in Crystal City, which was right when I needed a boost (mile 20-22ish?). Plus, Old Town is awesome and a great place to visit in itself.
i'm so envious of y'all. All of these "chosen" makes me think all four of us COULD have gotten in. Oh well
and yes, stay in Old Town - fabulous restaurants, 2-3 stops from the Pentagon for the race and easy access to shops/restaurants/whole foods for last minute supplies!

guess I should start running or something.
team terrified.
I think it's a good thing to consult the oracle of Pheippides, because if you didn't get chosen, you'd be looking for another one right now
hard to say. I'm kind of 'meh' about the fact I got into this one. I may end up doing a transfer. I was getting kind of amped up for a summer of half marathoning.

Congrats, everyone!
I'm doing the 17.75k race for entry, but now I wish I'd done the lottery, because I'd really prefer to not have to trek down to Quantico TWICE in April and also run a hilly 11-mile trail race while I'm trying to heal my hamstring. (I have to go down there twice because I realized I have to pick up my packet the day before the race; they don't seem to have day-of-race pickup.)

That stinks!!! I hate packet pickup, it is always such a hassle.
For the record I am now officially a member of team terrified. WHAT HAVE I DONE??
And now I will spend the rest of my day trying to enter the Chicago lottery as well and freak the eff out.
I blocked off my work calendar to make sure someone doesn't try to stop in my office. I know it's a lottery and it doesn't matter, but I don't care. I will put my name in the hat at the first available opportunity.

ewww. they won't mail it to you? if possible, I would throw some money at that problem. a lot of money actually.
they're really making you work for that guaranteed entry.
gt7301b I just made myself a little spring training schedule and also stumbled upon this lovely little website which has a 24 (!) week pfitz marathon training plan (in addition to the 18/55 and 18/70 plans). I'm fully down the rabbit hole.

OMG... So many miles. I don't think I can do 55 miles a week. I might be able to get to 50, but 55 miles in August is not happening.

It's the 12-13 milers that kill me. Anything over 90 minutes is a PITA. I usually do 10-11, and then throw a couple miles at the end of the shorter runs. At this point I've switched things around so much that I only follow his long run schedule. I like that the 20's are a little more spread out on the 18w plan. I still keep bouncing around the idea of a Hanson plan, but I'm scared to fully commit.

ITA. I'm planning on trying to build up to 60-65 for my next full (I saw 62 once), but those long mid-week runs kill, especially when you're not in DLST. I don't mind a 90+ min run after work, but I DO mind constantly running for hours on end in the dark. I sort of want to do a fall marathon, just so I can take advantage of all of the daylight!

You can do it!
I do agree with cinco that I had trouble running more than 11 miles mid-week. it's not the gospel or anything. you can modify to make it work for you!

I can't imagine finding the time to get 60-65 miles a week in, you are insane!!!

It's really not as bad as it sounds. Like ebeth said, you can move it around to make it work for you. The week I ran 62 miles (my own plan, not Pfitz), I never went further than 10 for a mid week run. I did do a 23 and ran 6 days though.
It's also just one or two weeks of training. I started w/a 35 mile week and built over the course of 16 weeks. Most of the weeks are spent in the 40s and 50s.
gt7301b, what did you peak at for your first marathon? I saw a huge improvement in my time when I went from a 40 mpw peak, to a 50 mpw peak. I think the main goal is to do more than you've done before (whatever that means for you)...speed work, distance, volume, etc. Volume was huge for me, and I saw big gains w/very little speed work. Now, since I don't really feel committed to bust out 70 & 80 mile weeks, I need to get better at speed work if I want to PR.
Pfitz is intimidating at first glance, but you really do get used to it. I actually commented to my DH that it was crazy how normal a mid-week 12 miler felt. Other than the constant cold & darkness, I really enjoyed them. When you're in the thick of training, they don't seem like a huge deal. Just one more run you need to knock out. Now, looking back at it, I'm back to thinking it's crazy & intimidating. LOL

Yeah, if I'd thought about this more, I would've just done the lottery. I wasn't thinking it through. I don't think they have an option to mail the packet.
I have some family in Springfield, VA, so I think I'm probably going to take off work early that Friday, drive down to pick up my packet, and then spend the night at their house in Springfield. Then I'll be much closer for the race on Saturday morning.

I peaked at 36 and my highest mileage month was 117. I am on track to get 117 miles this month without any 20 milers I think I can get to 45 without a problem, but I just not make it to the 45-55 range.
