Does anyone know WHEN they open the hotel rates? I'm a planner, OK? This is really grinding my gears.
DH registered today so I'd like to start looking at flights and hotel rooms. FWIW, AA's rate was over $300 and Delta had a non-stop for $280. *-) I'm really not sure if that is a good rate, or if we should hold out for something better. Oh, and it will be my birthday weekend so we'll hang around for a few days! Wheeeeeeeeeeeeee
I'm not sure about the hotels. (There were 5 of us, and we did a vacation rental.) For flights, are you in Atlanta? We paid $330 direct from Jacksonville, so $280 seems reasonable.
For something like this I book a hotel in advance and then just check the rates periodically. I already have a hotel booked for Philadelphia marathon weekend in case Mr. Gt decided he wants to run it. I think my rate was ~$250 and I'd expect to pay more for something near the start of Chicago. I'd wait on the flight to make sure you get in.

I may just go ahead and book a hotel and then cancel it if something better/cheaper comes along. DH stayed in the Palmer House last time and he said while it was nice, it was ollllllld and not really our kind of place.
He should be in. He used his time from the previous Chicago marathon. We may go even if he doesn't get a spot. A lot of his running group will be there, and it will be my 33rd birthday week. <)

If you're planning on being there for more than 2-3 days, even if it's just the two of you, I'd at least research rentals. We had an amazing place within walking distance to the start. We winded up splurging a bit (but it was still cheaper than a hotel), and a lot of options were MUCH cheaper than a hotel. Prices are ridiculous that weekend. (Obviously)
