A friend keeps posting about it on Facebook how she's lost 6lbs in a week. She posted about "this new diet" so I asked her what it was. She said, "I'll tell you all about it and bring all of the stuff with me when I see you this weekend."
So now I'm scared. It's not some MLM bullshit is it? She's done so many MLM things that my mind automatically goes there with her. That's what I get for asking. To quote When Harry Met Sally, "I WAS BEING NICE!"
I see red when that crap happens... Can't friends just hang out and talk because they're friends anymore? If I wanted to buy thirty-one bags or advocare or invest my money with you, I would've done it already!
I think Beach Body is Shakeology and yes, it's MLM
That sucks.
Any time I see the word "amazing" as a descriptive of the method of success I DO NOT ENGAGE. Sorry that you've awoken the beast.
FUUUUUUUCK.
Why did I have to ask? No wonder I felt bad that nobody else had congratulated her. Fuck.
I agree, katyintx. I've said that so many times. Facebook has reconnected me with people who want to make a buck, not hang out.
I'm going to send her a PM and say I'm doing the Whole 30 diet right now (I'm not) and I don't want to throw myself off so I'll pass on the Beach Body thing.

I do love how in the bizarro MLM universe, it's become perfectly acceptable to imply that a friend could stand to lose a few. I have an A---care shilling "friend" who emailed me to tell me that she's lost 8 inches from the waist and I could do the same.
Um, thanks. But I've never once expressed an interest in losing anything.

8" from the waist would make me have a barbie waist, and you're way tinier than me! Geez. People.
Can you just be like "hey I did some googling, Beach Body isn't for me, but I can't wait to see you this weekend!"
Yeah this is what I'll tell her. If she starts to ask to much about whole 30 I won't know what to say so I'll skip saying I'm on that. I've been doing a quasi Weight Watchers diet since Christmas but I've been on it so long it's not helping anymore. So I was looking for something new that wasn't too crazy restrictive. But not any MLM thing. Ugh.
Shellfish good point! I remember a woman I used to work with back in 2001 trying to get me on some shakes that her daughter was selling. She said, "She's lost so much weight and looks so good! She used to be your size!" I felt like a lardass.

This is so infuriating. I feel like people who sell become my friend only to solicit me.

I'm not kidding. That's just how she said it and it's stuck in my head all these years. Her daughter was around my age which was 30 and this lady was probably late 50s/early 60s so at the time I told myself she was just too old to know better which now I know is BS. I don't think people like this are trying to insult you but they get so overzealous with their sales that they will reach for anything. It's like they see a chubby person and think surely you must be desperate to lose weight.
I'm NOT a beach body coach, but I've done one of their programs (the new one, 21 Day Fix). If you are looking for a DVD-based home workout system, it's really not bad. P90X, Chalean Extreme, T-25, Insanity, etc are the Beach Body DVD programs. You certainly don't need to waste money on their supplements or detox programs (Shakeology is no different than any other meal replacement powder, but it's 3-4 times more expensive).
The coaches don't always try to recruit you - they make commission from the products you buy (which is why they push Shakeology - they make about $30 each month you buy it). They also move up the ranks and make more money if they bring you on as a coach, but then you get the coach discount, so they lose their commission.
The whole thing is a little... cult-like. But that's not to say it's a total scam. They do sell decent workout DVDs.
