I just registered for an October half marathon. I can't even run an entire 5k non-stop (or maybe I could and just haven't pushed myself to do it yet), and my furthest interval distance to date is 6 miles. But...I have 7 months to prepare, right? This is a good idea and not a totally insane one, right? I can do the whole damn thing in intervals if I want, right? Gah!

You're not totally insane! YOU CAN DO THIS! My longest run before I signed up for a half was 6.2 miles. I'd run it once. I'm fully confident in my ability to do this. And as for intervals, my mom still runs with intervals, and she's been running since I was a kid.
So yes, you can do this! Any chance you signed up for Detroit?

You can so do this. I honestly believe that anyone can run a half if they put in the time to prepare (case in point: me), and you have plenty of time. And you're going to feel so amazingly proud of yourself when you cross that finish line!

@sessalee same date, different city!
enfuego23 yup. Registration fees go up on April 1 and I got paid today, and I've been debating it for a while now. My birthday is next Wednesday so I'm considering this my early gift to myself. Except that as soon as I clicked the final button to register I started panicking that I couldn't do it!
mollyrunner I run with a 5-10k training group right now, but will probably sign up with the half training group when their next session starts up. I think that will be sometime in June, but I'm not sure.
Thanks so much everyone for your encouragement, I seriously love this group!

If you want someone to run it with, let me kno:). I love the Columbus Half! It's a great course. Don't panic, I know you can do it!

Running with me with my "I'll be lucky to average under a 14min/mi" pace you would be SO bored, lol! BUT, that said I would be very, very happy to have some company, or even just to meet up here and there for some training runs if not the race itself.
Congratulations! I find I have a very hard time running consistently if I don't have something big on my horizon that keeps me accountable. And I've not done a ton of half marathons, but I never feel bad about walking and resting when I need to. There is no shame in being a part of the >11min/mile group!
bluedaisyus, is your 5-10k group NOBO by any chance? You can totally do this, Columbus is a GREAT half! Barring any major mishaps, I'll be doing it too

Yup! This is my third session with them, then MIT next session I think. At least that's my current plan! It helps me even if I'm all alone at the back. A lot of my friends from the last couple of sessions are already with MIT for cap city, but I'm only doing the quarter. And thanks! I hope to see you there!
Last year I ran 2 5k both which I had to stop and walk, I decided in July to register for a half in sept I had 8 weeks of training. I didn't even stop to walk once in the half. You got this good luck!!

I lovelovelove MIT, even as a dedicated antimarathoner (for myself-I'm still more than happy to cheer on my marathoning friends though). I didn't do this winter b/c the 8am start doesn't work well with AJ's wakeup times and J's work schedule, but with the summer sessions starting at 630-7am it'll be a lot easier for me to go. Plus it was my bargaining chip with J when he came to me about doing his golf league again-he gets that, and I get MIT

Awesome, that's good to know! I have no desire to run a full, the half was like my "maybe someday" distance, but I'm looking forward to joining the group. Although I am NOT looking forward to the earlier summer start time!
