I need to prepare myself for my spring half to majorly suck. I've already decided to swap out my 25k for a 10k, but I'm already registered for the half, and I don't want to skip it.
I'm running half #6 at the end of April - 5 weeks from now. I had wanted to PR, but that's really unlikely now because the brutal winter and nearly constant illness has resulted in really low mileage weeks (like 15 mpw is a good week right now, and my longest runs have been hovering around 7-8 less-than-easy miles). I was just starting to get back into the swing of things and thinking that I at least wouldn't have problems with the distance, but now I have norovirus. I did 5 miles on Tuesday, but I missed Thursday's run due to impending death. I'm hoping to be okay for 9 miles on Sunday, but I still can't eat, so I don't know how realistic that is.
Tell me how much this is going to suck...then tell me about all of the great redemption races I can do all summer and fall to make up for this one sucking.

You'll be ok. I was in a similar situation for my half last weekend. You won't PR, but if you take it as a fun run, it should still be fun. Just go slow and try to enjoy yourself.
You still have a month to train, so you have some time to get in a couple of long runs.

Thanks! It hurts a little to watch my goal change from a PR to a fun run, but I'll make sure to get a few quality long runs in between now and then and just enjoy the race.
