You can get by with one infant seat if you are leaving the seat at daycare. You can either get a second base for the other car, or just install the seat using the seatbelt (with no base) in the other car, if needed. It's just as safe to install the seat using the seatbelt as it is to use the base.
FWIW, we didn't get a second set of seats until we moved to convertibles, and then we just got a set of Sceneras for our Honda Fit for emergencies.

LOVE the Chicco. We also have the Chicco Keyfit Caddy (snap n go stroller) and love that also. I wish we had two of those, since DH and I work opposite shifts, and he never remembers to take it out of his car.
we only have one. but we are fortunate that MIL comes to our house in the mornings, and we swap car seats into her car before work. when i pick her up from IL's house, we swap car seat again. ours doesn't have the detachable base..
Yup, one seat, two bases. Just make sure car seat stays with baby. When they switch to a convertible is when you really need multiple seats. I would take the time to learn how to install the infant seat with a seatbelt too in case you ever need to.
We also have two bases for the infant seat. I just got a convertible seat. We're going to see how it goes with just one for DH and me since he's in my car most of the time. (MIL who watches DS often did order one to keep in her car.)

We had 1 infant seat and one convertible seat. It helped that I did the dcp pick ups AND drop offs. My mom rarely watched dd and if h had to take dd anywhere I'd just take the non car seat cat to work.
I had the Chicco Keyfit 30 for DS2 and I liked it fine.
I would say if you weren't trading off that the urge to buy 2 car seats or have one in each car is kind of just overkill. But if one parent is dropping off and one is picking up I don't see any way around it. I guess you need 2?

Haha. Just read the thread. Yes, leaving the infant seat WITH the baby is a ridiculously simple solution. My kids are both in convertables so I wasn't thinking about the whole taking the seat out of the car with the kid in it thing. lol.
PS we just have 1 convertable for each kid. They are pretty easy to transfer to DH's or Grandma's cars if we need to. Otherwise whoever has the kids takes my car.
Ditto 1 infant seat and 2 bases. I have been VERY happy w/ our Key Fit 30. #1 safety rating on consumer reports, clicks in and out easily, pad removes for easy washing. The extra 5 pounds and inches on the weight/height limit is good too (the regular Key Fit is 25). Your kid could be huge like mine. 4.5 months old and 19 lbs 26 inches! I was crossing my figures at his last pedi appt that he hadn't outgrown his seat.

Double check with your DCP that you can leave the seat there. All the places DS1 has gone you could, then when DS2 started a couple weeks ago the new school they now both attend told me (on the first day, after I'd toured the place multiple times even before DS2 was born) that they didn't have storage space for the seat. The place was built two years ago, well within the time frame where they should have known they needed a place to store seats for the youngest kids, and like I said they never mentioned it before. So, I was pretty annoyed and pushed back as we'd have to buy a $200 seat since DH does PU and I do DO, and they found some space where they could store it after all. Grrr.
We had one for each car. DH drops off and I picked up. I saw no way to get by with just one. I found the cost of another car seat well worth it. The aggravation of moving it back and forth was way too much for that to be a reasonable option for us.
