:::Im trying to think of funny things instead of having a meltdown as the world discusses my fate:::
One of the guys I swim with that is racing TX was chatting about how he hates the heat. Later in the conversation I mentioned that I've been trying to make it to hot yoga (our room is 98, 75% humidity - very houston in may), and my feelings about exertion in the heat have changed - I'm really starting to enjoy it and hopefully acclimating as much as I can in the dry, cool, desert.
He says to me, "working out in that heat and humidity is really dangerous. You should never do that."
Hahahahahahahaha, he's racing IMTX!!! Hahahahahahaha.

Seriously, this story makes me cackle with laughter. My H is sitting across the table from me while we drink our coffee and he just keeps looking up and shaking his head with a little smile, because I'm totally tickled.
I feel like I need that meem of the little dog that looks drunk that says, "And he says he says, I don't like the heat!"

It's hilarious because it's ironic, and extremely idiotic. lol Ironic from someone who is doing IMTX, and idiotic because it's only really dangerous if you're not used to it, and then try and go balls to the wall. Attempting to slowly acclimate yourself to it, is a really great plan.
It would be exponentially more dangerous for someone from a cool dry climate to try to knock out a marathon in August in FL (just using an example), than it would be for me. I train in it. I'm acclimated to it. My body makes actual physiological changes to adapt to it (similar to someone who trains at altitude). You absolutely SHOULD try and familiarize yourself with it.
Seriously, I ran a half marathon in May once and vowed that was far enough.

How many H&F bucks will it take to bribe you all to stop it with these comments for about 8 more weeks?
<3
No, this is good! This way, on race day, you can be all "Psssshh, that wasn't nearly as bad as those heifers on H&F said it would be!"
Seriously, you'll be fine. It's not like your were delusional going into this. You thought about your pros and cons for this particular race, and you were realistic about the fact that the weather would be a con. That doesn't mean you still won't rock this race.
ETA: AND, if they are going to hold this during a warm weather month, May is the month to do it. May might be the start of our typical summer weather, but it is no August or September. It won't be that bad.

Plus you are doing hot yoga and are a bad ass.
I was all, I'm going to go out and PR a half marathon after running in the nice spring temps. Nope, not happening. And I'm a wimp when it comes to the heat.
When the fiery furnace of hell is whispering sweet nothings into my ear, I will replay that ol' pros & cons list to myself.
I'm just looking forward to the sponges. They better have sponges. And maybe some ice for my bra.
I love to stuff my clothes full of sponges and ice. Love. And a sip of coke.
I read a thing about the best place to stuff ice is your shorts - not sure if it rubs weird - but the reasoning was that there are way more nerves in your, ahem, genitals.
