So, apparently I have this. I have been told to wear an aircast and put on a NSAID. The doctor told me that I could still try to ride my bike but stop if it hurt. I am a bit frustrated since I had made some weight loss and fitness progress but I don't want to injury it further.
Does anyone have experience with this? I'm afraid that it is going to be one of those nagging things that won't go away. Thanks.

I haven't had this specific tendinitis, but I've had others. The bad news is that it does tend to be a nagging problem, and the only real solution is to take it easy and wait it out. The good news is that if you are diligent about resting and following other instructions, it will go away, and when it twinges like it's coming back as long as you again are good (rest, NSAIDs, ice, etc) you should be able to head it off. I know it sucks to have to take time off, especially when you're making progress, but it's really worth it for the long-term. I hope you heal quickly!

I had it several years ago and it cleared up after just a couple weeks of rest and anti-inflammatories. I developed it after running on only one side of our streets that don't have sidewalks. Since I corrected that issue it hasn't been a recurring problem.

I have/had this too. I wonder if this was my issue....hmmm.
ETA- it's been a reoccurring issue for me but to finallykrisb 's point, I think that could be a big part of my problem because the issue never reared it's head until we moved and I started running out and backs on the side walks in front of my house...

I had this last spring and found that KT tape while running (there is a specific wrap for it if you google it) and NSAIDS helped. It was gone by the end of the summer.
Thank you all for your insight. Yes, I think that I injured it running on uneven surfaces. I will look up the KT tape option. Honestly, I think that I will give up running as all I seem to do is injure myself. There's plenty of other stuff that I can do that makes me less prone to injury. Again, thanks.
allez I have felt like giving up running too due to the frustration of reoccurring injuries. But I realized that I loved running too much and it was worth working through. Don't let this get you down and out if you really love running- you CAN get through it.

Yes, I had it and was in a cast for a month while it healed. It was pretty bad though. It took three months of rest and then another 6 weeks of just walking then a reintroduction of C25K to get me back to running.
It sucks. It really does.
I found that strength training, particularly my hips and my glutes and going through a six week running form course have helped me a lot.
I had it 2 years ago. It is a tricky injury to treat. It is near impossible to completely rest it because even walking can aggravate it. I did PT, prescription anti inflammatories, and the boot. Total rest/the boot helped the most.
