Yes, I am that makeup remedial when it comes to techniques.
I am *still* trying to figure out what to do when it comes to lining my lower lash line. For a long time, I've done nothing, not even put mascara on my lower lash. I've got small, close set eyes. Waterlining even with something light looks horrible, and I can't do a whole eye lining a la Kate Middleton as that looks bad too.
So now I am a thinking a soft eyeshadow color, maybe even just 1/4 of my outer corner, would be the way to go. I've never lined with eyeshadow (I use a liquid pen for my upper). When I've tried to use an angle brush before--I have a Sonia K. one from Target--it is too thick.
What would you suggest here for technique? To wet the eyeshadow and apply with a smaller brush?
I use eyeshadow to line 90% of the time. For the upper eye I wet eyeshadow on a small angled brush (I use a mac 266 (http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/mac-266-small-angle-brush/2791427?origin=keywordsearch&fashionColor=&resultback=0)), and apply that way. But for lower lining, I use a smudge brush instead. I think its easier and harder to mess up because its less imperfect. I only go about 3/4 of the way in, and you can definitely do less. Plus, I find its good to start with a light color and go up over a time, for some reason it seems less strange on me then.
Agree with getting a smudge brush. It's my favorite! I have the $13 version of the Sephora smudge brush (they were out of the pro version when I bought): www.sephora.com/classic-smudge-brush-14-P188209
It works great. I just dab it onto whichever shadow I'm using, then smudge it into my lower lashes and along my upper lash line. It helps to set my liner, too. The bristles are a bit stiffer since they're short/blunt, so you have more control to get a precise application.
I use the angled brush and run it along a baby wipe for dampness before dabing on the shadow. I then apply to the upper lid and just come down slightly on the under eye. I have dark circles and I have found just doing that small area opens my eyes a bit.
I also have a product from UD (I've seen this from MAC and other companies as well) that has two brushes and some kind of magic liquid. You dip your brush in the tube, then use your eyeshadow of choice and apply it. It makes a soft, easy to manage eyeliner!

Thanks, ladies! I did a trial run and think I like it! I have a small, stiff brush, but I will get another one like you suggested if I really stick with this.
Thanks! It is such a softer look for me than any color solid eyeliner.
