My rec center is #3 on the list. I can only assume that they are in no particular order, because I don't really see my center as being all that fantastic. Some of the other ones look amazing. The only thing I can think of it they give a lot of credit to the outdoor recreation possibilities with the trail system, and the free rentals for skis and show shoes.
You certainly can't see "the rustic Maine countryside" from any part of the building. You see a parking lot, a storage shed, and the dining hall which always smells like cheeseburgers in the afternoon. Which makes me both hungry and a little sick to my stomach at the same time.
lol, after the '96 Olympics I should hope Georgia Tech makes the list!
These sorts of things kind of frustrate me though. These facilities are GORGEOUS, but in the grand scheme of things, you look at the SL debt that kids come out of college with, and the extravagance on campus (not just rec centers, but student unions, dorms, etc.) and it's galling to me. Gee, I wonder why education is so impossibly expensive!

Exactly, the UMaine system is currently looking at a budget shortfall and layoffs right now. And that facility really is not that spectacular. It's way too small for the size of the school, and the quality of the workmanship/construction leaves a lot to be desired in some areas.

The university I work for is on there with their bright shiny brand new rec center. It kinda pisses me off that they built that, but keep going upon tuition AND we haven't gotten raises in 4 years. Maybe I wouldn't be so bitter if I was on campus and could use the indoor track in the sky.

Nope, if your indoor raised track is anything like ours you'd be even more pissed because it's the worst track to run on ever. Too small, surface too hard, corners too sharp. I pick the treadmill over the track every single time.

Ohio State! That place is unreal...it's like a wonderland of athletic equipment. Not to mention the several satellite gyms they have, including a rock climbing wall. Oh man...I need to go work out...

It's interesting most of them are state schools too. Considering private university tuition tends to be even more exorbitant, I'd expect to see some glitzy fitness centers.
