No one pair of shoes is best for everyone - what's best for you is what fits your foot and gait best. Go to a specialty running store (not Sports Authority or a mall store) and have them fit you for a pair that matches your gait and feels comfortable. Don't let yourself be too swayed by pretty colors.
I have no brand loyalty. Right now I run in Asics Nimbus 14s, but I don't like the 15s, and have also run in Brooks and New Balance in recent memory.
Also, there is no discernible difference between jogging and running. I think most people consider jogging = derogatory term for slower paced running. You're running and walking.
A lot of people are going to recommend that you go to a local running store and get fitted for a pair of shoes. I did last year and it really did make a big difference.
Before I used to just walk into the big box store, pick up whatever mid priced Asics sneaker that was pretty, get a size 8 and walk out the door.
The LRS, was able to tell me that I needed a support shoe. And they put me in a size bigger than I would normally ever consider trying on, and just that alone was amazing.
Ditto hitting up a local running store. You need to be in the right size (running shoes are normally bigger, I run in a 7, I wear a 5.5/6) and you need to know how you run so your shoes can correct/not impair your natural stride.
Ditto visiting a local running store where they will assess your gait and recommend not only a type of shoe but discuss different brands that fit your needs. This will become even more important as you progress in order to prevent injury.
For me, I require a stability shoe, and I wear the New Balance brand because of their generally wider toe box. My running shoe size is a full size larger than my street shoe size.
Once I learned I needed a stability running shoe, I tried on various brands to see what worked for me-
My mind is blown that you run in a whole size bigger shoe than your normal size! Don't your feet slide in forward or gape in the back??

Mine don't, but I also wear an insole so that may be part of it. Again, it's all about how they feel when on, and having a proper fitting done. Could also vary by brand. The person that fitted me felt for the end of my toe, and I was able to run around the store to make sure- my same street size caused me to constantly bump my toe with each stride.

I thought they would slide around too, but your feet swell when you get going, and having that extra room in there for your feet to breathe is so nice!
PP reminded me that the salesman told me I had a really wide toe box, and I was a little taken aback at first, like he was insulting my feet, but its all just to get me in the right shoe.
Ok I can see feet swelling but they can't possible get a whole size longer too! LOL! If anything, it makes sense for me to get the wide with in regular size to accommodate the swelling. But I am a newbie so pardon the ignorance.

They can. I wear an 8.5/9 in regular shoes, my running shoes are a size 10. I tried a pair of 9.5 once and ended up with blisters.

I wear an 8/8.5 in normal shoes and my sneakers are a 9. My feet swell a lot on long runs, but they don't slide around at all on shorter runs/pre-swelling.
I wear 1/2 size bigger in running shoes than regular shoes. My foot measures a 6.5; I run in 7's. The extra space means no lost toenails due to pressure/rubbing. Part of finding the right shoe is a shoe that I can size up a little and have it still stay put.
Am I the only person in the world who wears the same size running shoe and regular shoe? Seriously, I've never even noticed a difference.
I do. Last time I got fitted, they thought about sizing me up a half size but they figured it would be too big overall. (I have about a half size difference btw my right and left foot)
