So they screwed up their upgrade - as users we voted with our feet and went elsewhere. No biggie. The endless editing of their Wiki, gleeful rubbing of hands over the prospect of NestWhomever getting fired - it just feels...unseemly.
I never paid any money for the hours of entertainment I got from the Nest. The only thing they've done that was shady was misusing photos people posted - beyond that I don't feel they owe me anything and I'm not emotionally invested in their success or their failure, KWIM?

I'm not in the battle but I am annoyed they rolled out an update they knew was flawed. I nest only on my phone and it was tolerable before but not it takes forever to load. I don't even have time to use the nest. Lovjng proboards! It works great on my iPhone's Safari plus I love the app
Yeah, I don't really care one way or the other where we are. I feel like shitty Knot/Nest/Bump "upgrades" happen every so often, people complain for awhile and eventually the kinks get worked out and everybody gets over it. I just followed the crowd because I like you guys.
I don't get all the drama either. I don't like the "upgrade" but I follow the crowd. If we had all stayed, I would have stayed. But we all left so here I am! I also like it here.

I think the only people who are really angry about it are the ML people, and they're mad about the Connect with Pampers situation really. Most people don't really care, they're just happy to be able to post somewhere.

Not to piss off the MLpeople, but I think the Bump had every right to politely ask the ML people to leave a sponsored board. Now, if it turned into something else, that is not professional and not cool. But there really were people asking connect with pampers questions. Maybe not super often, but pampersheather did offer helpful suggestions to some people.

Ditto all of this. I would've stayed there and just dealt with it if everyone hadn't jumped ship.

I get being amused by the whole thing, because I certainly have been. I also get feeling good about how well the transition played out (losing volenti aside) and all the added features and control here. But I don't get hoping someone will get fired. That seems a bit much.

This is pretty much how I feel. I think the mass exodus is amusing, from a business and social perspective, but in the long run, the Nest wil be fine. They'll get posters who wander over from the Knot who never knew the boards before the new formatting. I think it would be interesting to see how the new boards evolve, if I cared enough to go back. Will they anoint a their own crop of Elders in 5 years? Who will become the new Invidia? the new Volenti? What will be their 'peppergate'?
In the end, losing Volenti aside, I'm glad we found this site for the better features, iPhone app and lack of marketing tie-ins, but the Nest was nothing more than a free service we chose to access. I think they did a miserable job during the transition and are doing a miserable job post-transition, but I don't feel they owe us anything.
All the anger towards thenest is ridiculous. You would have thought a bunch of junkies had their heroin taken away from them for a whole 24 hours. I really hope this proboards thing falls apart and everyone goes back.

Also curious. I'm not one of the nest haters, but I fucking love the proboards site. This is so much nicer than the nest boards. What would be the benefit of returning? More glitches & harsher moderation?

I work for an IT company. It irks me that they seemed to take the basics of release planning and did the exact opposite of how it should be done at a very basic level. Their lack of addressing the issues annoys me. The chastising of regulars when they tried to create their own temporary solution since the powers-that-be weren't doing anything or even communicating with them is what pushed me over the edge to fuck them, I'm leaving level. I think the "apology" several days later that is really just an attempt to shift blame and not a real apology is pitiful.
But, I don't hate them and I think some have gone way overboard. But I also think the Nest/Bump/etc could have very easily avoided the entire mess and didn't care enough about their users to bother or even try. I'm glad the users decided to take matters into their own hands and I'll miss the community if everyone else went back.

I don't plan on going back. I can no longer nest from work unless it's on my phone and the new format has made that impossible.
The nest made a bad business decision. They reap what they sow.
Yeah, I feel bad for this Michelle lady. I wonder if she is getting flack from her supervisors.
In truth, if a coworker of mine had been responsible for a release as poorly planned and executed as this was, they would be getting more than "flack", they'd be packing their bags. Really, this was a glorious display of incompetence.
But there's no way I can eke out enough interest in the Nest's shortcomings to spend time writing a new entry for Wikipedia or taking the issue to Twitter.
That said, I agree w/Starry re: the MM Moms sub-board and am not in a hurry to move anywhere else.
Yeah, I don't get the outright animosity either. It's not like NestWhomever was responsible for this, they're just the "face" of TN who have to deal with pissed off "customers". I wouldn't want their job right now. But it's typical behavior when anything goes wrong anywhere.
I still go back and forth b/w these boards and those. Ya know, cuz I need another time suck in my life.
And I can say fuck. Which isn't a huge deal, but it seems silly to censor adults on a message board.
I agree that it is silly to censor adults, to a certain extent. But on the other hand, I say (and type) fuck freely in my normal life, so I get no kicks from being allowed to type it here. I get much more of a kick out of coming up with other ways to sayfuck. And for surfing-from-work purposes, it is nice that NSFW content was mostly taken away.
If anyone needs an example of what can happen to a message board when grown-ups aren't really moderating it, you may want to read: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xoxohth
I posted on the Princeton Review discussions when I was applying to/in law school, and was part of the mass migration when the board changes happened that made everyone move over to xoxo. Luckily the only thing that happened to me was that a troll released my photo on the board, which ruined my anonymity (particularly alarming considering that people from my school posted there, and particularly alarming considering the pretty massive amount of unsolicited comments about my appearance that ensued), but there has been some very, very nasty, career-ruining harassment there. So I'm okay with professional moderators.
I think having the self appointed mods here will definitely avoid that situation, though. I dont see this being an issue. We dont need paid hall monitors.

I admit that it gives me a certain sense of vindication to know that Nest traffic has decreased significantly. Do I want anyone to get fired over it? No. I think if anyone truly wants that, they are confusing the internet with real life and need to take a step back.
But I like this site a lot better, and I have no interest in going back to the Nest, so I don't really care if it flops or soars now. I hope that people stay here and keep these boards moving.
Mostly, I'm bored with the whole topic and I kind of wish we could all just get back to discussing our usual irrelevancies. I wish people would stop poking the Nest with a stick, because a small paranoid part of me believes that they will push XO (or whatever it's called) too far and there will be retaliation over here that will result in this board being shut down. ML in particular is known for taking things just that one step too far that results in serious consequences. (I say this as someone who been an MLer since 2005.)

I like the moderators here and trust them, but when users are mods you always run the risk that their friends can get away with things that others can't. That was part of the problem with xoxo. (But to be fair, the people in charge of that board are not nice people.)
But the bigger risk is what happens if shit goes down when the mods are not around. Which can happen on any board, but I'd think that somewhere with professional mods have more mechanisms to shut it down quickly.
V- there was some discussion on the mod board about this very issue. We may be setting up some other mechanisms so that someone is around/reachable.

But why vindication? I mean, they could certainly do a better job designing their boards (past, present, and future), but they seem to mean well at least?
I feel really bad for whoever the person is or people are who designed the crashy new boards and know that the whole Nest world is in turmoil as a result. I doubt they intended that.
It's as simple as "I'm right, and they're wrong." I'll admit that it's petty.

I don't harbor any animosity toward them although I will say I'm still a bit frustrated that they were unable to fix some issues with my original Nest account that resulted from their last upgrade. After one very unhelpful response from them, they completely ignored the issue. That was pretty annoying but I certainly hope no one loses their job over it.
Also, I really hope we stay here. These boards function so much better.
