I don't think it's enough to warrant medical intervention, but I strained my back yesterday and it's pretty uncomfortable. I've been told heat by some and ice by others.
Of course if it doesn't get better in the next day or so I'll make an appointment.

That is no fun. I get it sometimes, so I usually take a bunch of Advil and use a heating pad once I'm home. Rolling on the foam roller helps too, if it's only a little strain.
I am going through something similar although I went to the doctor after it didn't get better (got worse) in a week. My doctors says ice or heat--whatever makes it feel better--for 20 min. a few times/day. Advil or another NSAID if you want. Foam rolling gently. Back off of exercise for a few days to give the injury a chance to start healing.
Other than that I would say go to the doctor in a few days if it doesn't start to get better or if it suddenly gets worse.
