I am considering signing up for a 1/4 marathon trail run in June. Problem is, I've never ran in a trail run or ran that far before. To top it all off, I haven't ran much of anything in nearly a year (had knee surgery last October, and prior to than hadn't ran in at least 6 months).
Do any of you know of any good training programs for a) 1/4 marathon and b) trail running? I'm totally open to suggestions!
Yay! Is it the Run Through Hell that is local to you? I have wanted to do that race basically since I heard about it.
I say get your butt to that awesome state park nearby and hit the trails! (Watch for mountain bikers 'in the zone'.)
brit - no, it's the Indiana Women's Trail Run. Brand new, first time having it! Anything that is called "Run through Hell" is a great big, "oh hell no" for me!
Love of my life baby boy born 11/11. One and done not by choice; 3 years of TTC yielded 4 MMC and 2 CPs, through 4 IUIs and 2 IVFs. Focusing on making the world a better place instead...and running.
For that distance, I'd probably do C210k. Good luck, and have a great time with it! Have you been fitted for shoes recently?
Nope...I plan on doing that this weekend. I have some older running shoes (not old, not many miles on them, but need to be refitted) that will do me for the first bit to get the new shoes broken in, but I really need to be fitted.
If you're able, I would do some off road running, even if it means running in the grass next to the sidewalk. Also do some hill workouts as well. Good luck!
