I don't even know what the point of this is. Is that normal? I never really noticed until I was doing plough and shoulder stands tonight. My stomach is pretty reasonable when I am upright. I think it might be post baby skin. Of course I'm all 'poor me' now.
Somebody please smack me or talk some sense into me. I know my body made a baby, how awesome, and all that junk. But
Augh, me too. I swear I have 10 lbs of floppy, stretch marked skin just hanging there. The difference is that I see mine even when I'm standing upright
ebeth You are totally right. I'm lame and stupid. Before doing yoga tonight I was all ogling myself in the mirror thinking that my stomach looked better than it has in a while then --> ego deflated :: pssst::

I feel you. I do. I've seen my belly in plough and been all 'whoa. more planks ebeth.' it's just a weird position for your body to be in. if there wasn't extra skin there looking all gross in plough you wouldn't be able to stand up straight without your belly skin busting open and your intestines falling out.

Add me to the no baby, my tummy is floppy when doing yoga (or just bending over) list. I was blow-drying my hair this week and DH walked in and said, what the hell is wrong with your stomach? When I stand up it looks totally normal.

DH would have lost a testicle if he had said that to me.
LOL! I've never really noticed it in shoulder stand, but I can assure you, my stomach must look weird in plow. I also think it looks weird when I plank.

Me too with plank, and also warrior II - the twist-ish makes me look wider than I *think* I actually am.

Well I looked down and had an OMG moment. Not sure I had really paid that much attention before but it sure is weird/gross looking.
I don't do yoga but when I plank my belly skin hangs down like a loose sack of cow udders. It's so gross. It doesn't look GREART when I am standing up, but it is certainly presentable. When I am down in that position it hangs like a lactating dogs stomach does. It's horrific.

It's just hangs weird. Even the muscle hangs weird. I get this weird ridge down the middle. If I touch it, it's firm, but I guess the skin has to go somewhere. IDK, weird things happen when you put body parts in positions you don't normally view them in. I rule, totally normal!

How old are your kids? My youngest is 2.5 and probably for 1.5 years, I had "the ridge". If I did sit ups/crunches or even leaned up from a laying position, you could see almost a triangle formation. It was like my abs were split in half and folding like a roof
Totally normal, I got one too. Me eating cookies isn't helping it either. I haven't done yoga recently but note to self "do not look at my belly". Whenever I look at my belly and get upset I look at the kid and do the normal "Oh he was so worth it" thing. It really does help me feel better.

Haha, No kids. I think that's normal for stomach muscles?? Idk. At least it is for mine. Mine doesn't peak like a roof. It just looks like you can see the mass of my stomach muscles in contrast to my ribs/hip bones/and skin. While I hold PLENTY of fat elsewhere, my mid-section is pretty lean, so I always assumed that's why it can sometimes look that way. I just thought it was weird the first time I noticed it in plank. Bodies look weird during yoga.
ETA: Isn't muscle separation an actual thing from pregnancy, though? Isn't it so bad, that some women have to have it surgically corrected? I remember being horrified when I heard this. Like...these cute little things can actually rip your body in half. Ahhh...things to look forward to!

Yes, it's called diastasis or diastasis recti. It will often go away on its own with time and exercise but sometimes doesn't. In that case, some choose to have it fixed with a "full tummy tuck with muscle repair." I've heard the MR is really painful.
Mine didn't look great in certain yoga positions before, but the skin is definitely different after baby#3. I'm not sure if it is a case of one baby too many or older age, but the elasticity of my skin is odd in my tummy.
