H got a painful lump on his side earlier this week so he went to the doctor and they said it might be Mrsa!! I just washed all the sheets, towels, anything his skin had contact with. They drained the lump and put him on antibiotics but it can be contagious. Our son is less than 2 months old so I am totally freaked out. H is upset because he cannot hold him for 48 hrs. Ughhh. Anyone else have experience with this??
Oh NO! Do there know how he got it? I hope everyone feels better soon. I would invest in some of those surgical masks; my dad got MRSA from a hospital once, and that's what I did.

I had it on the inside of my thigh almost 2 years ago. It's scary stuff!!! I washed everything in the hot water, washed my hands all the time and wore latex gloves every time I changed the bandage. I was told that once I had the medicine in me for for 48 hours it wasn't as contagious. After they drained it, did they packed it with an antibiotic strip?
Oh no, Shawna. I am so sorry! One of my coworkers got MRSA on her stomach somehow. She actually had to have it drained twice and she said the infection was the most painful thing she has ever experienced. I hope it clears up soon for your H!
Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) infection is caused by a strain of staph bacteria that's become resistant to the antibiotics commonly used to treat ordinary staph infections.
Most MRSA infections occur in people who have been in hospitals or other health care settings, such as nursing homes and dialysis centers. When it occurs in these settings, it's known as health care-associated MRSA (HA-MRSA). HA-MRSA infections typically are associated with invasive procedures or devices, such as surgeries, intravenous tubing or artificial joints.
Another type of MRSA infection has occurred in the wider community — among healthy people. This form, community-associated MRSA (CA-MRSA), often begins as a painful skin boil. It's spread by skin-to-skin contact. At-risk populations include groups such as high school wrestlers, child care workers and people who live in crowded conditions.
It kind of sounds like the c diff infection that my friend suffered. Only I think c diff is worse. She had major issues with her large intestine. But it was an antibiotic resistant infection caused by antibiotics. Boo. I hope he's feeling better soon and that it doesn't spread to you and baby.
C-diff sucks, too! That is also usually a hospital acquired infection and is very contagious. Miserable stuff! And it causes millions of dollars in healthcare bills every year too. Hand hygiene is soooo important!

They think he got it from playing football.. he plays in a few rec leagues at least once a week and it showed up the next day following a game. I have washed like every sheet and towel in the house multiple days, got our house cleaned, and H washes his hands several times a day and anytime before he holds our son. The doctor said he can hold him now that he has been takimg the antibiotics. Yes, they did cut open and pack in, it's so gross. It's still very sore but it's getting better. He goes back to the doctor again today for more follow ups.
