I need new game ideas for my kids, aged (almost) 8 and 6. We have Wii Sports, Just Dance, 2 Star Wars games, Mario Kart, and Lego Batman or something like that. My son is completely obsessed with Mario Kart and plays that one all the time, to the exclusion of the others. Any suggestions for what games might be good for them?

We have both super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2. I got bored with #2 because it's essentially the same as #1, but that being said, #1 was a ton of fun. If we had started with 2 we'd probably like it more instead. Cute plot and good levels. Not as hard as super Mario brothers but still challenging.

My kids, similar ages, love Skylander SwapForce. The only problem is it can get expensive buying the starter kit, extra figures, etc. You need at least one Skylander Giant, in addition to what comes in the starter pack to complete the game.
edit to add: 8 year old girl, 5.5 year old boy.
you can set the game to easy mode so it's not frustrating for them.

Mario party is fun too.
Do you recommend Super Mario Brothers over Mario Galaxy, given my kids' ages?
I'm honestly unfamiliar with how well kids can play video games and what they like haha. I never had a system growing up and my son is only 2 ;-) however, I highly highly recommend super Mario Bros in general! It is SO much fun, and the ability to have multiple players play at the same time is really cool. It's been one of our favorites.
Our top three non-rpg games are probably Mario Bros, donkey Kong, and Galaxy.

Thank you! My kids love to play together, so this is good to know.

You can have up to 4 people play Mario Bros levels, it can get really crazy!
Donkey Kong supports 2 simultaneous players too. It's a really hard game as a single player though.
I didn't care for Mario Galaxy and after the third planet or so, stopped playing it. I *ADORE* Paper Mario and did beat that one...the only modern console game I have completed as an adult.
If he really likes Mario Kart, you might try Super-Strikers. Its soccer, you can play together on the same team or opposing teams, lots of action and variety. I, however, had to to stop playing as I decided the AI was cheating and I got too ragey *embarrassed*.

I am a huge fan of Mario Kart, but I also like Raving Rabbids and Rampage was fun. We rented Pikmin for our wiiU and I really liked that one. I know they have a wii version. My husband loves all the lego games. Zelda *might* work for the 8 yr old. My husband suggests Mario galaxy.
Do you have a video rental store in your area? We have one in our area and they rent wii games. It's a good way to try them before you buy them.
She loves Toy Story Mania, and she's starting to get into the various UDraw games. There's a regular artist studio type game, a Disney princess one and an Avengers one. The Avengers one is a little more advanced so she hasn't played it much, but she likes watching DH play it so I know she approves of it.
Lego games are huge here. I think in the newer Marvel Lego you can kinda create a superhero with powers pulled from various heroes. We haven't gotten that far yet, but that's what DH said. I loved HP Lego.
We have the Rabbids game on XBox and all love it. I'm sure it's plenty of fun on Wii as well.

Raving Rabbids on wii is great. On the wii you have to do a lot more physical things, like pump your hands up and down to run away from a boulder, etc. It's fun and tiring.
The Marvel lego one is fun. We didn't get super far in it, but I liked being The Hulk and breaking/smashing things. Is it on the wii or just the wiiU?
