Yes to both of these recommendations. When you get your Korean phones, program 1688-8601 into your phone. It allows you to dial out to make international calls using your local minutes.
There is also a KTX app to buy train tickets/view schedules from your phone but I think you need a Korean Bank card to actually make the purchases.
I was gonna suggest WhatsApp. Never heard of kik. Is it good, allibally?
I really like it. Because you can put it on a tablet or a phone. My only problem is that if you log in on your phone and then later log on to your tablet. It deletes on the messages. Really annoying so I only use it on my phone. But it works well and I can share photos.
