1. The stats - race, date, and other relevant information Indianapolis Women's Half Marathon on June 7. We booked a walking food tour of the city for after the race. I'm STOKED about that!
2. Where are you in your training plan? Base, peak, taper, other? I'm in the building mileage stage. My longest run so far has been 11 miles. I have not been doing as much speed work as I would have liked and I feel my goal time slipping out of my hands. I've started taking classes recently which is taking more time than I anticipated. I've got to figure out a balance for the next couple years.
3. It's spring! Finally! Kind of! What's your favorite piece of spring/summer running gear? I'm a big fan of the LLL Run Groovy shorts. I wish they were a smidge longer though. I love that I don't have to fuss with them on my run - they don't ride up or shift at all. Fab! I only have one pair and want 2 more pairs - I haven't been able to find a color I love though. Maybe I should just get black?
4. What's your favorite spring beverage? In an effort to lose the perpetual 5 lbs, I've cut out nearly all alcohol. I'm digging sparkling water lately.
5. Do you like to talk to people while you race, listen to music, or just run in silence with a few thousand (give or take) strangers? I do usually listen to music during a race and try to interact with other runners and the crowd too.
1. The stats - race, date, and other relevant information: Charity Chase Half, 6/1
2. Where are you in your training plan? Base, peak, taper, other?: base - in week 3
3. It's spring! Finally! Kind of! What's your favorite piece of spring/summer running gear?: ummm, my fuel belt for summer long runs!? my new moving comfort shorts are amazing.
4. What's your favorite spring beverage?: i love seltzer water, but cocktail-wise, champagne!
5. Do you like to talk to people while you race, listen to music, or just run in silence with a few thousand (give or take) strangers?: i like it all!
1. The stats - race, date, and other relevant information: Patriot Half (IM), 6/14
2. Where are you in your training plan? Base, peak, taper, other?: Base
3. It's spring! Finally! Kind of! What's your favorite piece of spring/summer running gear?: Right now I'm pretty infatuated with my bike helmet because it means I'm riding outside, lol. First two outdoor rides of the year on Sat and last night.
4. What's your favorite spring beverage?: Some of the spring seasonal beers are great, although I haven't been drinking much lately. It doesn't help with the weight loss.
5. Do you like to talk to people while you race, listen to music, or just run in silence with a few thousand (give or take) strangers?: Tunes. In tri's I can't have tunes, so I talk to the random people I'm running with. By the time you get to the run of an HIM people are pretty spread out, so you see the same few quite a bit.
1. The stats - race, date, and other relevant information:
Pgh Half, a month from Friday. YIKES!!!
2. Where are you in your training plan? Base, peak, taper, other?:
Just had my first 10 miler last weekend (in the pouring rain no less) and it was a pretty good run. I do need to start some major hill training though. I also changed my training plan yet again and am running 4x a week with 1 CT instead of 3 runs and 2 CTs.
3. It's spring! Finally! Kind of! What's your favorite piece of spring/summer running gear?:
I love running in crops!!!
4. What's your favorite spring beverage?:
Love sweet iced tea in the spring & summer.
5. Do you like to talk to people while you race, listen to music, or just run in silence with a few thousand (give or take) strangers?:
I can barely run much less hold a conversation. I do listen to music some times but it's not a must. I'm planning on no music on the race day so I can enjoy every moment of the crowd and the sounds of thousands of feet pounding the pavement!
1. The stats - race, date, and other relevant information: Wildwoof half 5/18- but two weeks prior is Broad Street 10 miler and a Mothers day 5k
2. Where are you in your training plan? Base, peak, taper, other?: Honestly, my training for this half has sucked so bad... any hopes for a PR are gone, I am just planning to finish and have fun with it and then bust my ass for a fall half marathon. I should be almost at the peak at this point and am sooo not
3. It's spring! Finally! Kind of! What's your favorite piece of spring/summer running gear?: I finally got a belt to hold my phone instead of armband and I love it! I am on the hunt for the perfect shorts for this summer so I am looking forward to responses
4. What's your favorite spring beverage?: switching from red wine to white wine, or a fun seasonal beer
5. Do you like to talk to people while you race, listen to music, or just run in silence with a few thousand (give or take) strangers?: I don't like to talk to people, I can barely breathe trying to run! I will enjoy the music if provided or wear my headphones, sometimes silence is golden too
1. The stats - race, date, and other relevant information: Earth Day Half Marathon on 4.19, racing it as my last really hard workout before a May marathon.
2. Where are you in your training plan? Base, peak, taper, other?: Well, I guess I'm still in peak training mode. This week is cut back, but then next week is peak week w/ hopefully 45+miles, then a lighter week right before the half. And THEN it's taper time.
3. It's spring! Finally! Kind of! What's your favorite piece of spring/summer running gear?: I just love being able to run in shorts. I really like my new Oiselle Roga shorts. I do also appreciate a good water bottle! I need to stash by my mailbox as it gets hotter. (One nice thing about winter is I can run for 2 hours and not really need a drink.)
4. What's your favorite spring beverage?: Chocolate milk! Leinie's Summer Shandy, a crisp glass of Pinot Noir.
5. Do you like to talk to people while you race, listen to music, or just run in silence with a few thousand (give or take) strangers? I like to talk in longer races (half or full) because I know I'm working too hard if I can't comfortably talk at least the first half. During the last hour or so of a marathon I usually turn to music. 5K - 10K, usually no music and no talking. I'm just in the zone trying to push as hard as I can. Maybe say hello or thanks to people cheering, but that's about it.

4. What's your favorite spring beverage?: I love a good strawberry lemonade
5. Do you like to talk to people while you race, listen to music, or just run in silence with a few thousand (give or take) strangers?: I either listen to music or run in silence. If someone talks to me while we're running, I don't mind, but I'm not one to initiate conversation

1. The stats - race, date, and other relevant information: Christie Clinic U of I Half Marathon Saturday April 26 (doing 5k the night before as part of the "I Challenge- 3 medals for the weekend WOOTWOOT)
2. Where are you in your training plan? Base, peak, taper, other?: Peak. OMG Peak. But I'd rather be here than taper. Taper is starting to make me nervous. And I've done this 5 times before, but this time it's way different.
3. It's spring! Finally! Kind of! What's your favorite piece of spring/summer running gear?: My running visor. I hate running with sunglasses on so it's a lifesaver for keeping the sun out of my eyes.
4. What's your favorite spring beverage?: wine. It's always wine.
5. Do you like to talk to people while you race, listen to music, or just run in silence with a few thousand (give or take) strangers? I listen to podcasts and music. I don't like to talk. But I have gotten "bored" during races and started conversations with other runners around me. However, this race I'm super focused on hitting a time goal so I don't think any friendly chit chat will be happening.
See, I can't quit you all. Three days after my first half ever, I just signed up for my second in September. I'll be back to the HDH check in soon.
Ooooh yeah... Which one?
This morning, I registered for this super small race. I thought it I would make a weekend out of it. But then my mom just emailed to tell me about an inaugural half in my hometown in PA that very same day. I am thinking I would love to go up to PA! So, worst case, I'll just cancel on the MD half, which is fine since it's a charity race- I don't mind losing the $$. But either way, I'm doing a half on 9/13!
1. The stats - race, date, and other relevant information: Glass City Half, 4/27
2. Where are you in your training plan? Base, peak, taper, other?: Acceptance. Date-wise, I suppose it's peak, but my sucky training this cycle makes it more like the top of a molehill. I did do a decent 10-miler on Sunday, though, so that was pretty exciting. I'm not convinced that I had 3.1 more miles in me at the end, but that's what race day adrenaline is for, right? 3. It's spring! Finally! Kind of! What's your favorite piece of spring/summer running gear?: I'm super excited to run in tank tops again! 4. What's your favorite spring beverage?: Seasonal beers 5. Do you like to talk to people while you race, listen to music, or just run in silence with a few thousand (give or take) strangers?: I usually listen to music. I'm not against talking to people, but I'm not very good at small talk.

4. What's your favorite spring beverage?: Summer beers are here!!! SQUEE!
5. Do you like to talk to people while you race, listen to music, or just run in silence with a few thousand (give or take) strangers?: Music, I think, but this race is the biggest I've ever run by.... well a lot.
I am doing the Bostons Run to Remember half marathon May 25th.
I am still building my base; I lost a ton over the winter.
I am so happy to be able to run in a tank and not have people look at me like I am crazy. I will run in a tank in 30 degree weather and still be hot. Everyone always comments on it.
I don't think I have a favorite spring beverage.
I like to do a mixture of talking and listening to music. I mostly listen to music though.
1. The stats - race, date, and other relevant information: Another Pittsburgh-er, 5/4, one month left!

1. The stats - race, date, and other relevant information:
Mohawk-Hudson Half 10/12
2. Where are you in your training plan? Base, peak, taper, other?:
I'm in rest mode for the next couple days - I'm dealing with some funky vertigo-type thing right now. I'm hoping it's gone by the weekend so I can go for a run. Then I'll be working on keeping my base, and make cross-training more of a habit. Training plan will start in June
3. It's spring! Finally! Kind of! What's your favorite piece of spring/summer running gear?:
Roadrunner Sports Shades of Gray Tank. I have 3 of them now - love them!
4. What's your favorite spring beverage?:
Margaritas, but then, I don't mind it being my anytime beverage. It's just so much better on a patio.
5. Do you like to talk to people while you race, listen to music, or just run in silence with a few thousand (give or take) strangers?:
I'd rather listen to music, but I don't mind if someone wants to chat, especially when the course gets tough. It helps me to commiserate with someone.

1. The stats - race, date, and other relevant information: Run for the Lakes, April 26 in Minnesota

3. It's spring! Finally! Kind of! What's your favorite piece of spring/summer running gear?: Getting to wear my new running shoes outside because it's finally dry enough (until tomorrow afternoon when we are supposed to get another 4-6 inches of snow)
4. What's your favorite spring beverage?: Mojitos
5. Do you like to talk to people while you race, listen to music, or just run in silence with a few thousand (give or take) strangers?: Usually listen to music (toward the end of the race) or silence with strangers
2. This question implies a plan. LOLOLOL! I've been averaging 18-22 mpw for a while...so there is no plan. I'm running with my sister and we will be lucky to break 2:05. Then it will be time to start ramping up (really slow) mileage.
3. Just shorts again! Even though my weight gain means they don't fit the best, I'm happy for sun on my legs.
4. I don't drink seasonally.
5. I plug in my music, but it's usually pretty low, so I will chat with people briefly if I'm in the mood. I am wicked chatty at Disney races be cause I'm having so much fun.
1. The stats - race, date, and other relevant information: Derby festival half. 4/19
2. Where are you in your training plan? Base, peak, taper, other?: My training plan doesn't have a taper, so base? I'm past my peak mileage.
3. It's spring! Finally! Kind of! What's your favorite piece of spring/summer running gear?: I'm pretty low maintenance when it comes to gear, so I don't have one,
4. What's your favorite spring beverage?: can I list my favorite summer beverage? I don't have a spring one. It's a Mojito.
5. Do you like to talk to people while you race, listen to music, or just run in silence with a few thousand (give or take) strangers?:
I listen to music. When shit starts getting real I turn off my music, and listen to my steps and focus on my breathing.
