DH offered to by me for my birthday a Fitbit. I read reviews on line but was sort overwhelmed with it all. I would rather have H&F's opinions. I run and cycle. I also track my walking for a work wellness committee but with a cheap pedometer. I like the idea of it tracking my sleep patterns. I have done WW for years so I like seeing my results and showing improvements and goals. What would you recommend? Or just ditch this tracking and get a Garmin? I run with my phone and RunKeeper app. But maybe an upgrade is needed. If there was a previous post concerning the Fitbit, Jawbone, Nike, etc. let me know and I will read that. Thank you!!
Honestly, the fitbit is only really good for general activity levels. It doesn't record cycling. Mine is really inaccurate for running, even after calibration. But it's discrete (I have the one) and great for tracking how little my butt moves from my chair during the day.
I have a fitbit one, and love it. I don't consider it a subsitute for a Garmin, and when I truly "workout" I wear a heartrate monitor and track those sessions separately (I track food and exercise on MFP). Where I do find the fitbit invaluable is for tracking my "non-workout" activity. For example, walking my dog every night, getting my butt out of the chair at work, small every day things that can really add up. For weight loss I find it very motivating, but I wouldn't consider it a serious workout tracker.
I also have the fitbit one and have worn it for over a year. I think it tracks my running steps accurately and I basically use it to encourage myself to walk more during the workday or do extra steps in the evenings when I come home way under my goal. Like others have said it won't do anything for cycling...I also use a Garmin for running. Both have their value!
