I'll drop a 47 second PR here for my 5 miler this morning: 42:42 chip time (8:34) m/m avg. YESSS.
Last year I did the same race in 44:34 (8:54 m/m). I am not sure where this year came from. Actually, yes I am. I am pretty sure it's the strength training over the winter. Either way, that was exciting and unexpected.

I had my first ever 10k race today. It was actually a little short, just 6 miles (apparently they had to reroute part of it for safety reasons). I've only done 6 miles twice before, both back in December, the first time was 1:32:00 and the second was 1:30:55 so my goal today was really just to come in under 1:30. Well, my clock time was 1:24:36 (not chip time, I looked when I passed through the gate and that was the displayed time, not sure if they'll update it), but my Garmin said 1:22:25. I know I'm still a slowpoke, but that was WAY better than I was expecting. Woo hoo!

I ran a half with my sister today. Neither one of us has been "training" training and I finished at 2:00:04. ANOTHER four seconds over two hours...just like Princess. Good Lord. I also had no Garmin and no music. Ran completely naked. So. Weird.
The good news is that I never really hurt, we had a good run just chatting the whole way (until the last two miles where sis was hurrrrting), and the weather was beautiful. It was fun.
It's time to start training, though. This whole "race for fun" thing is starting to get frustrating for uber-competitive me.
Did a 10K this morning and my GOODNESS I have come a long way. I did an 8K last June at a 10:58 pace, and today's 10K was at a 9:57 pace. I reallllly wanted to finish in under 1 hour but I was close at 1:01. =) I'll take it. Even better was my husband (who literally just started running like 5 months ago) finishing at 1:05. He stopped to walk around mile 4.5 but clearly didn't walk for long He was right on my tail. I'm so happy for him!
The race was the Chi-Town 10K and Half Marathon and I couldn't believe how small of a race it was. Very well run, pretty simple but beautiful course through Lincoln Park and along the lakefront. And the 43 degrees and sunshine was as close to perfect weather as you'll get here in Chicago in April. =)
Finished the Cherry Pit 10 miler this morning. My longest race ever, and automatic PR: 2:18:21 gun time (13:50 pace), 2:17:53 according to my watch. So glad I did a little local race starting from a county high school, and not with 17,000 of my closest friends!

Had a great time at the Cherry Blossom 10 miler this morning! I lived in MoCo most of my life and running today's race was closer than I've ever been to a lot of landmarks - I had never really been around the tidal basin or the Jefferson. It was nice to see some of the Cherry Blossoms - I'm actually kind of glad they were not fully in bloom - it probably helped my allergies/asthma. I absolutely FAILED at running the tangents...so much weaving. Overall, I'm pretty happy with my time. My only real goal was under 2:00 and I got that. My pace was much better than at Shamrock a couple weeks ago - I don't know why, but 10 miles is so much easier mentally than a 1/2.
Did the Cherry Blossom - goal was under 2 hours - missed it by a few seconds.... Likely because of walking between 5 and 6 miles to stretch my calf... Darned PF flareup. Alas. Didn't train so... Whatevs.

H and I did the Philadelphia Hot Chocolate 15K today. PR's for us both (by default, this was our first 15K!) I finished in 1:52, that was good enough for me! It ended up being a nice race.

I did this race too. It was fun! A little boring with the turnarounds but I liked the chocolate at the end and it wasn't too crowded. It had a good vibe.

I was concerned because the organization leading up to it wasn't the greatest - with the hotel being out by the airport (we traveled from 3 hours away to run it, so we had to stay overnight) and the last minute cancellation of the expo, I was worried about race-day. I don't even think the hotel was going to do a shuttle until the last minute and that would have been a mess for us because we are not familiar with Philadelphia.
I remember around mile 4.5 I kept thinking geez, when are we going to ever turn around!!! The chocolate was fun and I like the hoodie we got! I'm glad you had fun.
I did an indoor triathlon yesterday. First tri. It was a timed format, so you had 10 minutes for swim, 20 minutes for bike, 15 minutes for run, and you just go as hard and fast as you can.
I ended up doing 400m, 5.98mi and 1.42 mi. Which is basically where I wanted to be - able to do the full sprint swim distance and half the bike and run. Still waiting for the official results to be posted, but I think I came in 20th overall and 2nd in my age group. I'm a bit frustrated that I didn't come in 1st - I eased up on the bike/spin phase because I didn't want to blow out during the run (my weakest event). I was short of my group winner by 0.7 miles.
I've only been in training for 6 weeks and had a baby 4.5 months ago. My husband thinks I'm crazy to be frustrated with my results.
I ran the Austin American Statesman Capital 10,000.
I did really good. I only took two very brief walk breaks. I'm really pissed though because my chip time is incorrect. My finish time was the same as the gun time even though I didn't even cross the start line until 8 minutes after the start of the race. When I crossed the finish line the ticker read 1:12. I subtracted the 8 minutes. I went to the results site and they said I finished at 1:12. I posted the issue on the race's FB page and apparently I wasn't the only one who had this issue. And of course there were some people who just wanted to be jerks and were like, "My time was correct. Great job timekeepers." Eff you mother ****. Nike+ says I finished in 1:04. Had I not taken those walking breaks I may have been able to finish under an hour. Would have been awesome but oh well.

I already AWed my race in a different thread but I'll do it again here. I jumped into a local 5K this weekend. I haven't had a "set" training plan all winter because I've been more focused on dissertation writing. I wanted to keep running but didn't have any set time goals in mind. I didn't want to get to the point where I was stressing about not getting in specific workouts, etc. I guess some of my "pent up energy" runs paid off. I ran a post-college PR but 9 seconds. 21:41!

I was a "course angel" at this weekend's Hollywood Half. We started at the front with the elites so we could get to our stations ASAP, and that shit was nerve wracking. Also, a lot of elites are rude assholes.
It was awesome cheering people on at the 10-mile mark and seeing how happy they were to only have a 5K left to the finish. A lot of folks told me they loved having us throughout the race to give them a little boost.
The only sucky part was seeing my finish time - a solid hour-plus beyond my usual. But it was really fun to be there till the end. We all ran to the finish with the very last participant and she totally beamed at the end.
I was set for this to be my last half for 2014, but I'm getting the itch to register for another so I can redeem myself with a better time. LOL. What is WRONG with me??
