I'm hoping to do any Oly Tri in late August/early Sept (probably the Nation's Tri), but I want to do 2 Sprints first--one in June, and one in late July/August. I have tons of choices for tris in August, but finding one in June or even early July is proving tricky.
Ideally, I'd like one that has hotels nearby. The one I was hoping to do (Rock Hall on MD's Eastern Shore) doesn't have hotels available within an hour, and I'm really not looking forward to a 1.5 hour drive the morning of. And camping isn't my thing, lol.
I live north of that area, so I have not done many in that area. But I will say, avoid anything hosted by City Tri. Most of their races seem to be in NJ. I did a race of theirs a couple years ago, and it was a nightmare. So many reasons why.* From their FB feed, I got the impression that it was par for the course. Never again.
*For example: - they screwed up timing and never fixed it--they failed to subtract the time delay for waves subsequent to wave #1, so there was no "chip time" vs. "gun time" difference. Obnoxious for late waves! - they let people ride out of transition w/o helmets on - people drafted like crazy. I know a little of that happens everywhere probably, but this seemed excessive. The leaders rode in a damn peloton together. It wasn't even subtle, we all saw it on the out & back course! - shirt, finisher's medal, and AG awards all sucked. Who wants a plastic trophy!? - they failed to secure permits for the race before advertising and collecting race entry fees, and when the time came, they couldn't get the permits--so they moved it to a significantly less desirable location that I would not have signed up for a race in. (Yucky lake instead of ocean; main land instead of beach town.) No refunds for people who didn't want to race in the new venue.

Thanks for the tip. My inlaws live in NJ, so I very well might have looked into one of their tris.
