I took your advice a while ago and got fitted for shoes at a LRS. I'm not a runner, I don't run much at all, but they felt great when I did run. However, I killed the shoes really, really quickly doing plyo plus a bit of running 6 days a week with them.
Not wanting to drop a ton of money on another pair of running shoes that I was just going to burn through again. I went to a regular sports outfitter and tried on an inexpensive pair of running shoes. I didn't even bother putting the second shoe on. They felt terrible. So I tried another pair, and nope I couldn't do those either. I didn't even have to take two steps in them to realize that they didn't hold a candle to the quality, fit and construction of my other shoes.
So today it's back to the LRS to find some new shoes, and it's all your fault. If I had never known what good shoes felt like I would have walked out of that store happy as a clam with my cheapo sneakers!
We have a running shoes line in our budget. I've started getting more miles out of my shoes lately though, thank goodness. Don't know if the shoe is getting more efficient or I am, but I'm definitely able to get more mileage out of them before I feel achy joints.
I'm going to bring in my shoes that lasted a long time, and my most recent pair that wore out super fast and see what we can come up with. The ones I had that lasted a long time aren't made anymore, and the newest model sucks.
Can you buy the same shoes you had before online for less? I am all in favor of buying from the LRS when they provide the service/fitting, but it saves me a ton to buy only every other or every couple pairs of shoes there.
You probably also don't need to wear your running shoes for plyo, do you? I do all strength training in retired running shoes so I don't burn through current ones as fast.
I'm considering buying the same running shoes, and then getting a pair of cross trainers or something designed more for my weight lifting and plyo work outs. The running shoes just weren't made for the beating I put them through, but I did love them for running! I figure if I save them for just running they'll last forever because I just don't run much.
Hopefully I can find a pair of cross trainers in last year's model that will fit that I can get a good price on.

Agree! I usually buy them off of Amazon or runningwarehouse.com and wear old shoes for any cross training activities.
