I have narrow heels, and tie all my running shoe laces like in the picture to keep my heels from slipping. It works great for just running, but tri's present a challenge.
I've tried to use Yankz or whatever they're called, so I don't have to fumble with laces in T2. The problem I have with them, though, is that they always leave the top holes feeling too loose on my feet, and my heels slip a little when the top holes aren't tight. In a 70.3, 13.1 is a long way to run with shoes that don't feel tied right.
Has anyone come across a good solution for this? Do I need to suck it up and tie my shoes in T2?
Oooh, even though I don't have an answer for you, I'm glad you brought it up.
I tie my shoes exactly the same way but I keep hearing about the bungee laces for triathlons. I haven't bought them, though, because I worry they won't feel snug when running. And to be honest, an extra minute in my T2 time isn't going to make or break my first sprint triathlon.
But I'm curious as to what others say too.
I have used Yankz the last couple years, and I will continue to (barring finding a better product) in sprint tri's and probably Oly's -- I can deal with shoes that don't feel quite right for 5k or 10k. It's the 13.1 where it really irks. For me, it's less about the minutes to tie, as my fingers just flat out not being nimble enough to tie after 56 miles (or less) of leaning on handlebars. That's what really gets you.
