I know I'm about 20 years late to this, but I know a lot of you have read it here. Did you read it in school? Because OMG, I cannot imagine reading that as a young teen! How utterly disturbing. Have you read the rest of the series? Is it worth it or just stop with the one book?
I read it when I was probably around 12 or 13? I went on to read all of the VC Andrews books that were available at the time. I guess I was a twisted kid.
I don't remember the whole series very well but I know the prequel Garden of Shadows was one of my favorites. I also liked the Heaven series which was the only other series actually written by V.C. Andrews.
The standalone My Sweet Audrina is a special kind of fucked up.
H is going out on Saturday night for boys night out. I was planning on putting on hot pink eyeliner and watching the Great Gatsby, but now I'm thinking I might want to park myself on the couch with a Bota Box and Petals on the Wind.

Sooo, that's a yes, I should continue the series?
I wonder if when you read it in your life affects the way you view it. I'm sure reading it around 13, you look at it from the perspective of Cathy, but me, reading it as an adult mother, I read it as that perspective?

But you're keeping the hot pink eyeliner yes?
Yes! It doesn't look nearly as ridiculous as it sounds!

I read it for the first time as a tipsy and childless 35 year old, and my takeaway was that it was just so ridiculous.
I haven't read the others, but I like a good laugh.
I think I read them in late elementary school (5th grade? Maybe 4th). I know I read FITA and went back a few years later and read the rest of her stuff.
I think I read them all in middle and early high school. And didn't realize how f'ed up most of the storylines were until I was older...I went from "oh, so and so had such a tragic life!" to "oh dear lord how stupid can you be?".

It was fun joining you the last time, but Saturday night is busy. I would have put on glitter eyeliner and pink lipstick, too.
