I dont love that dress, but it is the style. We are going to a wedding in a month with the .iLs. My MIL begged to buy the dress for Layla. Fine. Until she started shopping. She told me she thinks that dress looks cheap. I prefer poofy, flower girl/baptism style dress. She prefers a linen tennis dress for $200. I think I am just going to buy a "cheap" dress since it is my kid.
200 dollars? She's out of her mind. Buy what you like. I don't go toward poofy usually, but I think that dress is cute. Do you have a gapkids? I've found some great stuff for weddings there recently on markdown.

I don't like how shiny the cream fabric looks. That makes it look a little cheap, IMO. I wouldn't judge you for putting your kid in it; it's just not my style. There's no way I'd spend $200 for a party dress for a baby. Baby Gap does have super cute girl clothes.
I think it looks cheap (sorry!), and it is overly poofy/frilly for my taste, but I wouldn't judge you for it. Your kid, your choice. I suspect I would like the $200 linen dress your MIL picked.

Nms at all. I tend to scour second hand stores for frilly girl dresses. They have em in droves. Bought many a Gymboree or name brand dress for $20 or less for my three year old

That dress was a gift and she wont be wearing it to the wedding. It is way too small But it is the type of dress I enjoy. I agree shiny and orange are not the best. But I do want poofy and a little frilly.

I think the dress that bncha posted is cute.
ITA. That GAP one is way cute. The orange one is garish.
