I'm reading The Feast of All Saints by Anne Rice. I pick up The Miracle Worker tomorrow for my challenge and I have The Metamorphosis by Kafka already downloaded onto my Kindle because it's the next one in the list after The Miracle Worker.
I'm taking a bit of a break in IQ84 (still plan to finish it, but needed something else for a bit) and reading The Book Theif. It's not at all what I expected and I'm really enjoying it, though it is pretty sad.

I just finished The Age of Miracles by Karen Walker Thompson. It's my first YA dystopian fiction since (maybe?) middle school and I liked it. I'm going to try and read some non-fiction this weekend that's due back at the library on Tuesday.

I'm about half done with Pillars of the Earth. It's really good, but it's long and I'm having a hard time finding quality time to sit and read. Hopefully I'll get a good chunk done this weekend.
I'm listening to Witch and Wizard by James Patterson and hope to finish it this weekend. I have the other two books in the series on audio downloaded as well, so I'm thinking I'll be able to get through the whole thing in one push. I'm reading Anna Karenina as well, but with school it's been slow going for everything in hard copy or kindle.
Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime. Mark Twain
I just finished a reread of Mockingjay (my least favorite of the three -- I was pretty bored with it, in fact) and am starting Beautiful Ruins by Jess Walter. Also picked up The Interior by Lisa See, but I don't think I'll stick with that one right now.

Messy by the Fug Girls. It's fun summer reading. A handful of us who "know" Heather and Jessica from another message board are going to the signing here next week, and then out for drinks with them after, (I think) so I'm trying to finish it before then.

I'm reading The Shallows: What the Internet is Doing to Our Brains by Nicholas Carr. Our school is giving students iPads next year and I'm trying to think about how I feel about it and how it may affect my teaching. So it's semi-work related. I just finished Gillian Flynn's Dark Places last night, so I'm looking for my next fiction read. I'm leaning towards either The Story of Edgar Sawtelle or Paradise by Toni Morrison.

I'm reading Beautiful Ruins by Jess Walter. It's decent, but it's reminding me of how much I've come to hate books that flip flop between different time periods. Inevitably one of the time periods is more interesting and it's annoying to have to wait to get back to that part of the story
I was going to be reading Between Georgia. Except that the stupid library's AC broke and now it's not open till Tuesday so I can't pick up the books I have on hold.

Alif the Unseen by G. Willow Wilson. It came up on a list of books that are getting really high Goodreads reviews. It's definitely not something I would have picked up on my own but it was compared a lot to Harry Potter and Hunger Games and people seem to love it so I gave it a shot. It sort of is like those books but really, really different from anything I've read lately too. I am completely loving it and would highly recommend it!

Dang, I should work there. Our library A/C has been wonky all summer and was completely shut off on a couple of 96-degree days but we still had to be there!

I just finished The Tiger's Wife by Tea Obreht last night. It was ok but I had some difficulty getting into it at times.
I started Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother by Amy Chua. I'm about halfway through already and it's been pretty interesting since her parenting style is so very different than my own.
