Thanks to this thread I just bought a toddler tula and I'm eyeing a ring sling. Considering I own an Ergo, Mei Tai, and 5 wovens DH is not going to be happy!

Oooh good idea! I have a shorty I never touch because I just couldn't get into the length. DH will love the idea of a $4 ring instead of a whole new carrier!

Thanks to everyone for the great advice! I just ordered a woven ring sling from a shop that sells them locally. I'll let you know what I think when it arrives!
Reading this thread makes me want a ring sling real bad.
Do it! I've only had mine a few days, but I really like it. I bought it from the Maya ring sling site. New was $70-something. I wasn't sure if I'd love it & didn't want to spent that much to find out. I bought one of their 'gently used' ones for $44. The downside is you can't pick the color/pattern. Just striped or solid. I looked at their stripes & decided I'd be happy with any of them. I slightly preferred blue or purple and mentioned it in the comments... And they sent a blue/purple/green one and it looks brand new! Might be a coincidence, but I'm pleased!
What do you recommend for fabric for a ring sling? I'm planning on getting a SBP sling but don't know which fabric to get. I hope to wear #2 from birth until he refuses to be worn. Thank you!

Here are some of our carriers, past and present. I will post more later. Pre-school sized kinderpack. It is still a bit too big for him, but I wanted buckles today. We can still comfortably carry our 44lb 45 inches, 4 year old in it.
Homemade kid's mei tai with ribbon straps.
BBslen Shorty in Pumpkin (First TMBG kids' concert)
Tandem wearing infant and 2.5 year old. Bali Breeze wrap and Standard Deluxe Bambaroo Mei Tai
I tried on my Lillebaby tonight. My son promptly spit up everything in his stomach and my Lillebaby is now soaking in the sink. Not sure if that's a commentary on how he feels about baby wearing, or a sign that he's really, really sick!
traveljunkie13, tell us about your wraps. I fell in love with wraps a year and a half ago and somehow managed to resist buying more...until I got my Biotiful last month and I'm back to wanting all the wraps.
I was obsessed with wrapping when I had DD! I bought my Mei Tai when DS was a little guy because it was so much easier to throw him in that when chasing a crazy 2.5yr old! I'm falling in love with my wraps again though as he gets bigger (and DD isn't as crazy!).
My first wrap was a Didymos Cobalt Rouge Indio. I LOVE LOVE LOVE this wrap! I am the third owner so it is completely broken in and the softest thing ever It is extremely thin which is great in the TX heat. I told DH I was never selling this wrap (I have dreams of wrapping grandbabies in it! haha!). This was the only picture I could find on this computer:
I bought this Vatanai Koira wrap for DH because he wanted something a bit longer and less girly than my Didy. Vats are also one of the thinner wraps (though this one is much thicker than my didy!) but I get the best back wrap with this one!
I have a Natibaby butterfly wrap that I liked a lot....but it somehow got a huge 2in rip right in the middle I think there is enough material before the rip to possibly cut it for a shorty or a ringsling. Debating!

Had to break my post apart for the pics!
I bought the Didy Pfau shorty because I love the peacocks but I just don't do well with shorties and it is 100% cotton so feels sooo thick to me! Plus it still needs a lot of breaking in so I just don't love it
After DS was born I wanted a "boyish" wrap (the excuse I gave to DH!) so I pulled the trigger and got a Zara Lemongrass. I find it a little harder to do some carries because the tails have such a large taper (usual for Zaras) and it still needs a bit of breaking in but the print is soooo gorgeous!! This is the other wrap I don't plan to ever sell
All you make me want to go out and buy some baby carriers. I have ONE. Becco Gemini and I don't really care for it to be honest I don't really care for it. The shoulder straps are HUGE on me. Anyone else have this issue, how do you tighten them?
I am not familiar with the Gemini. Do you have pictures of you wearing it?
I'm officially getting my Amitola converted into a half buckle. I'm overwhelmed. SO MANY OPTIONS.
All I know is I want a hood with bear ears. Because bear ears, squee!
How much of the wrap will be used for the conversion? Have you tried any short wraps? If you're left with a shorty after the conversion you may find you like wrapping more, at least that's how it was for me.
I think it's all going to be used, because I'm getting long wrap straps and both sides are going to be made of wrap.
I worry about getting a shorty given that I'm not tiny. I might try wrapping with something cheap, like a stretchy wrap or a Little Frog, when we have #2 and see if I like it with a less mobile infant. I didn't start wrapping until C was 9 months or so, and he was already pretty squirmy at that point.
We have a local BWI group that has a really nice lending library. I need to take advantage of it.
I finally did a back carry in our lillebaby! I used the video @ojo posted and it was super easy. N seemed okay with it; I think he would have enjoyed it more if we werent just walking around the house.
mom wants to babywear to help her with stairs, but doesn't like buckling/unbuckling the Gemini, and she can't reach the back buckle on the Ergo. Suggestions on something that's fairly easy to put on/take off? Front carrying is probably the only option.

Mei Tai. She can tie it in front under the baby's butt, and the Infantino one is cheap and well reviewed.
Ojo, thanks for the pic of wearing the Babyhawk. Looking at yours I realized I must have been tying it too low.
I have a maya ring sling I really need to figure out. I am not sure what my problem is, but I can't seem to get it working, it's like the pouch of fabric is way too big.
I also have a. Beco Butterlfly II that might work now. I tried it a couple times with the newborn insert but it was like DS was too tall for it (he was 22in at birth and is 24 in now at 2 months)
Our big fail so far has been the NuRoo pocket. I wanted to love it, the idea is fantastic! It would be great for someone with typical small, sleepy newborns. I had an almost eleven pounder at birth that was not content in it! The weight limit is fifteen pounds, so he was almost too big for it from the start. He was just too alert and frantic and trying to get out or get on my breast for it to work.
I am hoping he likes the Beco. I have found I am more comfortable with carriers that are structured and I can't mess up putting on. I think the wrapping overwhelms me.

We have:
Infant/standard Kinderpack with koolnit (most used) Ergo (Daddy's most used) K'tan (seldom used) Single layer gauze ring sling (stopped trusting the fabric around 12 lbs., also never really got the hang of it)
My kid has had a long body and short legs since birth. It took me months to get into a groove with him. I never liked the idea of inserts or blankets in the Ergo because then he lost head support at the top. Everything changed when I finally got my infant Kinderpack when he was 3 months (around 14 pounds) and now it gets used for hours a day and fits me and baby really well. Shortly after 4 months (16 pounds) is about when daddy was able to adopt the Ergo and make it his carrier.
I am about 5, 3.5" 130ish pounds, really small busted and in this picture kiddo is about 4.5 months, 17ish pounds and maybe 25" tall. Sorry the lighting is dark. This is the Infant Kinderpack with koolnit panel. You can't see the underside but I still have it cinched quite a bit for his short legs. He fell asleep right after that even with little kids screaming all around him so he must like it. You see the hood hanging down because I use it often to support his head when he falls asleep, and occasionally to limit the sun or the rain from hitting him. I have a couple sets of the suck pads because he will sit there like a little suckerfish and just chew and suck until it's totally saturated. I know I tend to wear him a little low. Sometimes it's difficult to get him up higher without the waist strap hurting my back.

Which one? The Infantino Sash looks like it ties in back from the youtube videos ...

For the Ergo, move the buckles up, closer to your neck.
niq, or get her to try the ring sling. It takes a bit of technique, but it's very easy to get on and off and get baby in and out once you've got a good feel for it.

You can tie the waist belt of the sash in front and scoot it around, and the shoulder straps come around and tie in front under the butt.
I think there are more than one niq. The Infantino mei tai sash works like Brie described. I think there's another random sash one that is different. I have the mei tai and I really like it. And it's less hot than the moby since it has less material.

Ooh, maybe this is a good place to ask this question. So, DS was extremely large when he was born (just over 11 pounds). We didn't have an Ergo or anything similar at the time, but I'm planning to buy one this time around. If this baby is around the same size, can I wear him/her right away without using an infant insert? Just looking to save the extra $$ if I can.

I just stuck a blanket under the bum. Insert not necessary.
