Is anyone's dog on Previcox? We started our American Bulldog on it regularly about 2 months ago. He had taken it in the past and did well on it so when we had to address his arthritis on a more consistent level this was what we decided on. He takes half of a 227 mg tablet a day usually but we can go to a whole if necessary.
So, I picked up his prescription and thought it was high but I was on my lunch break and just paid. I found last month's paper work and it was almost half the cost. When I called, they said the price had went up. Well, it went from $2.37 a pill to $4.04.
I have two questions:
1. have you found it cheaper elsewhere? Dr. Foster and Smith had it for $2.60 a pill but that was the cheapest I found. I know that part of the issue is that it is the latest and greatest and there is no generic. The vet is willing to write me a prescription.
2. I am considering switching him to Rimadyl. I had my lab on it for 3 years and he did fine. I know the Previcox is suppose to be gentler to the stomach than Rimadyl but we were happy with it with Murphy so I am considering switching Bruce. Anyone tried this? Or should I just suck it up and pay?

My elderly Newfoundland was prevacox for quite a while. I'm having a hard time remembering exactly how long, but it was worth it. I bought the 227 mg tablets in the 60 count bottle for just under $200 locally or $168 online at my vet's preferred online pharmacy VetSource. Expensive but it really really helped Beamer. We also used Tramadol once and twice daily as time went on. We said goodbye to her in Sept of last year at almost 13.
I've never used Rimadyl, so I can't help you decide which is better.
