Does your pet really know their name?
Growing up, you could call one of our two labs, and you'd get both. I don't think they understood the difference between their names.
I'm 100% convinced that Bentley knows his name because he responds even when Jeremy Clarkson (from Top Gear, my favorite car show) says "Bentley". It usually makes him do his cute little Scottie head tilt. It's awesome.

Dot knows her name, although she responds best to "D. Dot" - it's what they called her at the rescue. She also responds to dingus, schmingus, and and schmutzhund. Yes, we are weird people.
Quincy knows the difference between his name and Dexter's. When I'm feeding them treats, I'll say each name, and he only comes forward when I say his name. When I say Dexter, he remains sitting. Such a good boy. Dexter would know both names because he's smart, but he's lost pretty much all of his hearing now, so we use hand signals. But he knows to come when we signal to him, and to stay when we signal to Quincy.

Yeah, they know and if I accidently call them the wrong name I get a wtf face. But both dogs respond to multiple nicknames and I think Jackson responsed better to fabio-dog than his real name.
A friend suggested we try Johnny Cash's Jackson for our freestyle (get it...border collie as the man in black lol) but he kept looking around when they say Jackson in the song. And once Poe was racing another Poe in flyball when she crossed over and ran back with the other Poe to the handler on the other team because he called her name. She also got really confused when we were watching glee and they did a version of poker face. they did a section "Po-po-poker face" and Poe kept staring and cocking her head.

Haha I love it! I can see her cute little face being all confused!

There was a doggie IQ test on the board several years ago. That was one of the questions. You had to call your dog over with their name, and then again using the same tone of voice, but a random word. We used "refrigerator." Ringo only came to his name.
My kitties know their names. They also respond to their nicknames. Princess Super Kitty response to Princess, Super, Love Bug, and Lovey Love Bug. Gwen Tennyson response most to Gwenny or Pet Whore.

I just tested, since both dogs are in the living room with me right now. Reese looked at me when I called her name (Carl did not) and Carl looked at me when I called his name, but Reese did not.
Now, whether they actually COME when I call their names is another story (unless the aroma of food accompanies my calling).
Peloton knows his name, which makes me so happy because everyone in my family insisted it was too long and didn't have an -i or -y at the end so he'd never get it.
I have yet to see if he'll recognize it when it's on TV though, maybe I'll have him watch some Tour coverage tomorrow.
Hilo definitely does. He was named after the little town of Hawaii and they were talking about it on TV once and every time they said "Hilo" he'd look up at the TV and turn his head. He also knows his best friend's name is Luke. So every time we talk about Luke (who lives next door), he perks up like they're getting to play.
Max knows his name. He also answers to maxipoo and poo poo. For about the first 6 months he thought his name was "no!" that is what he heard us saying to him most of the time.

Roxie knows her name, she's answer to both Roxie and Roxanne. Sable knows her name, but she'll also answer to "Bear" And I swear Mocha knows his name. I know he's a cat, but if they're in another room and I call for either of the other two cats, he won't come, but if I call for him, he comes. Penny and Lucky just don't care and ignore everything I say anyway.

3 of our 4 cats know their names and nicknames. The forth one we've had for ~2 years and she still has no clue we mean her when we use her name. We often play a game of tossing out random words, still waiting for her to respond to one (she was a rescue, so likely had a previous name we don't know). She does understand the words "breakfast" and "dinner" and if you want her to come to you, all you have to do is pretend to pet the air--she'll move so you are petting her head.

We have a himalayan kitten that knows her name. She comes to you if you call her, comes running if her treat bag is opened and understands "no" and "wet food". If you say no she immediately stops what she is doing and flops over. If you say wet food she runs over to her food dish and paces while squeaking until you put the bowl down. She also meow/squeaks in response to hello, good morning and pretty kitty.
My older cat used to respond to her name but now she only responds to "wet food".
