Currently, we have one of these:
And I hate it. It, for some reason, is missing the back piece so it's wobbly, there's not enough space for people to store their shoes (My H and both kiddos keep their shoes out in the living room, I keep most of mine in my closet), and the baby keeps taking them all out. He dismantled the damn thing this week and it was a pain to put back together.
I really want this one from Ikea but we're 6+ months still from the Ikea opening, but I can't do this a lot longer. Any short term suggestions?

LOL housegeek, it probably would! Problem is with that first one is that baby shoes won't fit in there (he has monster feet, but the shoes are still much smaller). I've considered one of those benches with the baskets underneath, but then finding a "pair" would be next to impossible for some people in my house (coughMonkeycough). I probably should get the stackable things and redo my coat closet. SO MANY COATS AND WE WEAR THE SAME ONES ALL THE TIME!

Well, msmerymac, do you like it? Because I have wanted one for awhile. Now I swear, if they discontinue it before Ikea Merriam opens, I'll lose my damn mind.
(We have a Hemnes dresser and nightstand from a trip we took to Dallas - not for Ikea specifically, just a nice bonus- and I like them a lot. We'll probably replace our dresser with one.)

I like it and I like the whole Hemnes series, really (we have 3 dressers, 2 night stands and a secretary so far in addition to this). BUT it's not obvious that this particular piece doesn't have legs on the back and therefore has to be secured to the wall with some kind of anchor. Which sucks if you have plaster walls. My husband and I didn't realize this until we got it home and put it together, but had we realized it in store, it might have been enough for us to pass. I have no idea why they did this, except that it allows you to put it right against a wall with a baseboard.
My husband currently keeps his shoes there, because we share a pretty small closet that's only big enough for my shoes. It's also narrow (about 12 inches deep), so it works in the entryway of our apartment, which is what I needed - narrow profile, lots of storage. And the top drawer is great for keeping keys and coupons and other little things we need to grab on the way out.

I think the two legs is what I like about it. It'll fit snug up against our wall and not be a huge obstacle like the one we have now. PLUS the drawer on top for keys. Right now, my H tosses his wherever (and sometimes mine) so then I have to search. 99% of the time, he's put them on the mantel and I'm not tall enough to see that easily. (I'm really short lol.)
This us a never ending battle in my house. We have such a small space inside the garage. Sort of hoping Ikea brings a sole when they open. Even if I am bummed that they are coming here im the first place.

What? Why? I'm counting down the days until it opens! lol
I have the Ikea cabinet in the OP and I love it! It holds a lot more than it looks like it would.

LOL how many of us from Kansas ARE here? Are you all just ashamed??
I'd consider building one if I knew it wouldn't be a big deal. Maybe I can convince my FIL to help with this too lol. Plus, I can customize the color. The white or brown-black options are kind of boring.

Sorry, I was going to suggest the Hemnes one too. I have one in my mudroom and love it, but it doesn't hold a TON of shoes. You have to trim it down to the ones you wear most often. :-) I have the one that's four square drawers.

I grew up over there and so did my parents. A lot of homes I spent time in as a child were knocked down to build that building. I know that is a dying city and it is good for it but I was sad to see childhood memories torn down.

Another ksu alum here but I was raised in the country our family farms
I got one of those over the door pocket shoe organizers in our coat closet just for DS's shoes and sandals. Our shoes were just on the floor of the closet but was a terrible mess so now I have them in plastic drawers like the one on the left in this pic

Ah that makes sense. I'm sorry about your neighborhood.

Oh I'm sorry. I didn't see this earlier. My uncle used to live right around the corner on Antioch, so it was really weird for a long time to see no houses there.

My mom was raised on Antioch!
We are practically neighbors. My mom was raised on the WyCo side and my dad on the JoCo side so I'm super familiar with the areas in-between. My grandparents still live just over the hill off Merriam lane.
