Thank you all for your encouragement and support along the way and for the congrats yesterday. I think I should have run a bit harder since I'm not as sore as I thought I would be today and I had enough energy to sprint down Boylston I'll make this a briefish recap.
Up at 4:45 because my charity bus left at 5:30. Ugh. My start time was 11:25. Such a late start. Hung out in Hopkington, napped, watched some of the race (laughed so hard at random US runner leading the men for 2 minutes-ha!), finally got to start.
The first 10 miles are in the burbs and nature but the crowds are still awesome. Its my least favorite part of the course. I only ran that part twice in training.
My training/race partner was having serious stomach issues. We did a fair amount of stopping and walking from miles 5-12. I thought she could push through it, but didn't realize how bad it was. She made me leave her at mile 13 She was set to PR last year with a time of just over 4 hours but was stopped due to the bombings right before the turn onto Hereford (quarter mile from the finish) last year. I feel so bad for her.
I was excited to get to the 16 mile marker. Single digits to go! It was pretty hot out and I was starting to feel bored.
I was a little disoriented on the Newton hills. I've run them so many times, but had to ask the crowd how many hills I had left at one point. :?
Cleveland Circle. The start of the end. This is the home stretch for me. I used to live in Kenmore Square and have run this route a million times. I love knowing exactly whats ahead. The hill past just past Audobon Circle usually sucks, but I was so psyched to hit Kenmore square that I barely noticed it.
Kenmore was amazing. I've been one of the spectators there almost every year for the past 10 years. I started crying running through it.
My H, the boys, and friends were at the Hereford turn. I wanted to break 4:30, so I barely said hi.
I sprinted down Boylston. The tears wouldn't stop flowing. Crossing was such an emotional moment.
Considering the issues during the 1st half and not being trained well, I am proud of what I was able to do. 2 marathons in 6 months done and now I'm going to retire from them for a bit
Congratulations!! You're amazing!!! I'm from Boston too I was so jealous of all the runners. I am thinking next year might be my year to try to get in!

Congratulations! Being from Boston, one of these days I want to run the marathon. It sounds like an amazing run considering the heat and problems in the 1st half.
Congratulations!! Thanks for sharing the story. I'm sure it was so special & emotional for you being from Boston. Sorry for your friend. It's awful to have a rough day like that w/ stomach issues, but I'm happy she could finish.
