I have LOVED my Sayonaras. Loved them. I love how they feel, how they look, how light they are. But even I know I can't train for a full with them full time. And with a bit of achy shins starting, I know it's time to replace. So as I head toward marathon training next month, I need new shoes. I've trained in Glycerin 9s and 11s and they have been awesome for me. Cushy goodness. But they are effing expensive - $150 and with my LRS discount, about $130. And they're heavy. (and I hate the color combos of this model. Hate them all.)
Orrrr...I've tried the Ghost 6 on a few times and I like them. I hated the 5s, so I know it's a 6 thing I like. They are significantly cheaper - $100 or $85 with LRS discount. I think (don't know) they are lighter than the Glycerins. And now that I've been in those Sayonaras for a while, I don't "need" the cushion as much. (color combos much better here)
Orrrr...start all over with the search. Shoes I've liked but never actually run in: adidas Boost, Nike Pegasus, NB 880 (I think?). I'm also intrigued by the Brooks Transcend, but I think they're pretty damn heavy and more stability than I would need.

I'm a Glycerin faithful. Yes, they're heavy, but I need the stability and the cushioning. I have bunions and big toes (lol) so I need tons of space in the toe box, which is why I chose the Glycerins over the Ghosts. I also found the Transcends to be too restricting in the toes.
I had a conversation with the SA at Road Runner the other night and he has found that people aren't liking the Transcends at all, and have had complaints about the cushioning, Which is a bad thing for the Glycerin wearers because the 12s are coming out in June and they have the same cushioning.
I'm an loyal Adidas fan for shoes. Boost are great for speed, but I prefer the comfort and support of Supernova. I wouldn't worry about the colour combo too much if the shoe if otherwise perfect. The

They're changing the Glycerins? NOOOOOO!!!!! They're friggin' expensive, but the only shoes my feet have felt happy in. Guess I'll be grabbing up what I can in a couple months.
taratru - the Ghosts were lighter than the Glycerins when I tried them, but they were just off for me. The Glycerins seemed to hold my feet better, if that makes any sense.
I'd go back to your LRS and kind of start over with the search just to see if they have any other suggestions for you besides the ones you know of.
My current shoes are like $145 at the LRS, which I feel you, sucks. But I happily pay it because happy feet/ankles/shins is more than worth it. I just try to buy the NEXT pair of the same thing online for less. I've gotten the last 3 in a row at close to half price. That really takes the sting out of pricey shoes.

check the running warehouse liquidation section. I just got a pair of brooks for like $70 from there.
otherwise, if price is a barrier, I'd try a cheaper brand like saucony. BUT I've found that I can't get as many miles out of a pair of saucony's as I can out of a pair of brooks. so it might be worth it to just drop the $150 on a pair of brooks if you'll get 20% more miles out of them.
This thread has made me want to try the Sayonaras. Thanks, taratru! lol
I'm trying to love the gen. 3 of the Pureflows, but they are still not my beloved originals. I could run an entire marathon, and not have throbbing feet. I can't say that about the 3s. The Sayonaras are a tad heavier, and they have a much larger heel/toe drop, but I think I'm going shoe shopping this weekend.

Really, huh? Good to know. I tried Transcends when I bought my PureCadences, but was going to try the Transcends for my next pair.

I think you'll like them. I love wearing Pureflows just to wear (I just can't do the minimal drop shoes), and the lightness of the Sayonara feels like those with the heel-toe I need. Plus, they're wicked cool looking.

I love love love my Sayonara. I also can't train in minimals. I will tell you I suspect they are part of the issue I'm having in my ankle and I wish I'd found another shoe for the longer distance but it's too late now (and I'll be sticking mostly to 10k distances for a while after this).
