I've read before that some brands of diapers are better for boys, and some better for girls. In a diapering thread yesterday, it looks like most people with boys prefer Huggies over Pampers?
We've been using Pampers Swaddlers during the day and Pampers Baby Dry at night, and he almost always has AT LEAST one leaky diaper every day (sometimes 2-3), and at least one every night. He fits pretty well in size 1s, we're pointing his penis down, the legs are snug, no gaps in front or back, ruffles all fluffed outward. Are Huggies better for boys? Would we get fewer leaks? Or are leaks fairly normal?
I have a boy and we love pampers and hated huggies. I dunno if it matters the gender, I would just try diff. brands until you find one that works best for your son.

When we use disposables we have success with either Huggies or Kirkland/Costco brand (whichever is on sale at the time). When they were younger and eating overnight we definitely sized up in diapers. Now that DS2 is older and not drinking as much right before bedtime we can use the same diapers day/night and he seems to be ok.
Unless he has an epic diarrhea explosion that requires a bath a 7am like this morning. Ugh!
Every time I had leaks in disposables I sized up and the leaks stopped.
This - and we exclusively used Pampers. Sizing up when DS started leaking did the trick. Once we realized that, as soon as he met the weight limit for the next size, we moved up and that put an end to leaks for us.
We use Target when we are not using prefolds. They work just fine. We have also used Pampers (at birth) and Huggies, which have also worked fine, but he isn't a heavy wetter, either.
I will say when he was the age of your DS we had CONSTANT leaky diapers - I honestly think we just hadn't quite gotten the hang of diapering yet (this is not to indicate you haven't figured it out, just that we had a lot of leakage that sorted itself out after a few weeks).
Once he was a belly sleeper, and sleeping long stretches at night, the Pampers Overnights have been great because the extra absorption, particularly in the front, seems ideal for a boy.

I think if there's a trend it's mainly a skinny leg vs chubby leg difference, where girls tend to have bigger thighs. I found huggies a better fit on my skinny peanut of a boy. But babies and diapers come in all shapes so there is some trial and error. We've had to size up for overnight diapers since about 3 months.
The leaks are mainly up the back or on the side (depends on if he's laying on his back, or if he's on his side like while nursing). I can't imagine my 3 week old would need size 2s....though it could definitely be a chubby leg/skinny leg issue (he has skinny legs). And it's entirely possible that we're just not quite doing it right :-)
We've really liked the Costco diapers (my friend who works for them says they're made by Huggies). The key thing for us was that we need to change him before feeding if his diaper is at all wet. Once we did that, he stopped leaking while nursing.
I've heard that when you start having leaks/blowouts you need to size up, which we found to be the case moving from Newborn to size 1, but I agree that I'm not sure your 3 week old needs size 2! Each baby is different though - you never know!
Another vote for Huggies, and sizing up. Sizing up seems to always fix his leaking. I tried a bunch of different brands (Seventh Generation, Pampers, Target, Wegmans, Earth's Best) before finding that Huggies worked the best. I think every kid is different, you just have to try some brands and see which one works.

I haste the Huggies we got as a gift and I'm ready to go back to Pampers, but I also want to try up and up. I read that Target is having a buy two, get a $15 gc next week, which is the highest gc I've seen.
We use Pampers Swaddlers for our boy and they seem to work for days and nights. We were leaking almost every diaper but when we went up a size that stopped. We received a pack of Huggies as a shower give and we did not like those at all.
