I know some people on here have had injuries, so I'm hoping someone can help me. I have an ankle/leg injury and I'm still in a cast. I was wondering what shoes I should get when I get my cast off both for everyday use and for starting back in the gym (elliptical, cycling, but no more running). I'm a SAHM, so I could get away with wearing sneakers if I have to.
My doc told me to have prepared a stablizing tennis shoe one size larger then my regular size. Then when my foot and ankle are ready to get fitted into a ankle stablizing shoe. But I am having surgery and will be in a cast and non weight bearing for a while with physical therapy.
Because your foot and ankle will be weak I also would suggest nothing below a tennis shoe.
I would go to a running store and get fitted. This is what I've been doing and it's interesting how my gait has changed as my ankle heals. A year ago I was in custom orthotics and an ankle stabilizing shoe. Right now I'm in a neutral shoe with no orthotic, 9 months later.
