My sister just got a phone call that a woman found her dog, which wasn't possible because the dog was sitting right in front of her. The woman said she got her information through the found dog's microchip. She had my sister's name, address & phone number.
Besides being really creepy, how is this possible? Security breech with the microchip company?
Just to be safe, I would contact the microchip company to make sure your sister's dog's microchip number actually links to the correct information just in case her dog ever runs away/escapes/goes missing.
After learning more from my sister, the woman was from a rescue & pulled the dog from being euthanized. Still don't know how she got my sister's info, but she's bringing her own dog to be checked that his microchip has the correct information. Poor other pup. I hope he/she has a happy ending.
I just registered our dog and the application had me choose whether I wanted them to release my info to someone who found him or if we wanted contact to go through them. FWIW, this was Home Again. Also, I agree that someone may have transposed a number.
