I've run three half marathons, but I'm slow. I've had fun at two of the three (the first was really bad). There is a full next March (Tobacco Rd Marathon) that some of my running buddies are doing. It's only $50 if I sign up now - same price as the half. I was planning to work on speed for the next year and then maybe do a full in Dec 2015.
There is a 7 hour time limit. My goal if I were to do it would just be to finish. Then maybe do the December full and have a time goal?
I don't think I can run marathons all the time though. Unless I quit my job, I just don't have time for the training.
Marathon training doesn't have to be too time consuming. You can get away with shorter runs during the week and just make sure you have time for a long run on one of the weekend days.
Go for it! It's only $50. Since you've already run some halfs, you have a great running base. Nearly a year is tons of time. You wouuldn't have to start seriously training until November-ish.
I'd do it! Training doesn't have to be *that* time consuming. Yes the weekend long run can take forever but the weekday stuff (for me) is never longer than 90 minutes. And those happen only a few times.
Don't worry about how slow you go! I've done 15 marathons and many of them have been verrrrrry slow. 7 hours is a long time, you'll totally be able to do it
I've looked at that race before! At that price, I would have already signed up.
i am tempted. My sister lives really close to there and it's a quick drive.
EAST COAST GTG!!
by the way - i think i am stalking following you on instagram. At least i think its you. Anyways, i posted a pic of my run this morning & thought about y'all - trying to convince a GTG in the east

So, funny story. I was all, "I don't have Instagram." But then I remembered I was talking to my sister about it, like, a year ago, and set one up to show her some things...and loaded maybe 5 pics w/my nieces, that I took that day. So I login (first time since August), and I have 25 followers. LOL WTF?! So yes, if it's a person with two adorable little girls, that's me. Maybe I'll start actually using it now. I will admit that I don't fully understand it. As a marketing professional, I should be ashamed to admit that, but it's not relevant to what I do.
Also, yes to east coast GTG, but probably no to Tobacco Road. If everything goes as planned, I'll have Boston the following month.
ETA: Ok, I'm glad you mentioned this, because I have now set it to private, and I'm aware that I have an account! LOL Other people from this board are also following me. Sorry, girls, most boring instagramer, ever! That's what happens when you have an account you don't know about. I think I saw you, and have now friend requested you.
Sounds like a good plan to me. 7 hours is a nice cushion too. It's actually probably enough time to walk it, so I know you'll make it if you chose to sign up. Happy training!

I injured my leg around mile 11 of a marathon in a very deserted area. It was a tiny race with no sag wagon, i didn't have a cell phone on me, etc. I walked the remaining 15+ miles and still finished in 5:50. You'll have plenty of cushion!

Thanks all!
I am not sure about it. It seems soon, but I guess it's still two ten! (not two!) months away. I told myself I wasn't going to sign up for a marathon until I ran a 2:22 half (what McMillan says translates to a 5 hr marathon). My PR is currently 2:27.
I told my husband last night that I am bored. I want to either move, have another baby or run a marathon. All of a sudden, he's my #1 running fan. He totally thinks I should do it, so hopefully he will be supportive. He's great but his job is very demanding and he travels a good bit. Trying to juggle a training schedule, a full time job and two kids' schedules (who are at different schools until August 2015) is overwhelming sometimes.

Lol; I like it!
My H is seemingly never ready for kids, so I'm telling him I'll keep running marathons until he is ready. (Though that's not saying I'll give it up entirely after they come. )
Honestly though, do what you feel is the right choice right now. It took me a few years to sign up for a marathon after my first half, and it took 2 years after that to do another marathon. 26.2 will always be waiting for you when you're ready.

Okay, H and I talked about this more last night. The plan has been for me to stop working during the summer 2015. I am planning to stay at home when my youngest starts kindergarten so that I have more time to help with after-school activities, homework, volunteering in the classroom, etc. Anyway, I should have more time to train because I run on weekdays when the kids are in school. I think I am going to stick with my plan of running my first full in Dec 2015.
Also, if we are serious about doing a H&F GTG at Kiawah in 2014 that would be my third half in three months. I may want a little break after that.
