I just finished this on audio. Has anyone else read it?
It's a young adult, but well written story about the life of a Native American teenager trying to escape the poverty and alcoholism so prevalent on the reservation where he lives. Sometimes hilarious sometimes sad but definitely inspiring.
I listened to this on audio too and loved it! It was my first Sherman Alexie book. I think when I started listening to it, his voice grated on me but I ended up loving it and thinking his inflections really added to the story. Have you read anything else by him? His adult stuff is great too.

I completely agree. At the beginning I was thinking, "oh, I don't think I can listen to 6 hours of this guy." But by the end I thought the voice was so perfect and really gave so much personality to Arnold.
I have not read any of his other books. I'll have to add a couple to my list. : )

Loved this novel, and love him! I saw him at last year's National Book Festival. I don't think I've laughed so hard at an author's talk. It got very serious, though, when he compared Diary to his real life, and you realize how much he toned down Diary. I'm so disappointed that the NBF website never posted the video.
Looking forward to his next, Blasphemy, a collection of 15 new and 15 older stories.
