Well, I agree with her that nobody should comment on anyone's body.
When you're being held up as what females should look like in one of the most important and subversive industries in America people should absolutely fucking comment.
I don't disagree with you, but I think it's more productive to direct the commentary toward the fashion designers that set forth the requirements for this particular look, rather than the models themselves who are trying to conform to the ridiculous expectations set before them by the industry if they want to book jobs.
No. Someone who is 5'7" and a size 12 is not on the other end of the scale. You're still solidly in the area of average even if it is still considered overweight on a doctor's chart.
Part of me wants to argue with this statement, and part of me agrees. It is average, and I certainly wouldn't want to insinuate that the "issues" I've faced over the years are comparable to someone who has been fighting being overweight or obese all their life. But the fact remains that I'm still over a healthy weight (thus you know, the very definition of overweight), and trust, it's not muscle mass.
Yes! I just think it's important to not frame a size 12 as the complete other end of the spectrum, because the experiences at a size 12 are likely significantly different than a size 20.

::Sigh:: You are correct, it does have to be part of the conversation, but I hate that it does. As if not only is it a fucking competition to see whose body is more perfect, it's also a competition to see whose plight in life is harder. I hope I explain this right (glass of wine, does not make for the best writing skills) but it often seems to me as if because women are underprivileged class, that the create barriers of entry to make what is an excluded group an exclusive group. Whether it be fighting over dress size, or martyrdom. Off to go build a femi-nazi commune, stockpiled with mashed potatoes, cake, wine, and pop tarts.

Nope, totally get it. I feel exactly what you're talking about when I'm not quite fat enough to be invited to the big fat clothes swap my friends have.

No. There are thin women, and there are thin women who are that way because of an unhealthy reason. Just like there are people who are overweight but still work out and eat well.
I don't care about those who are naturally thin. You do you. The fashion industry, however, is not known for encouraging their models to be thin in a healthy way. This is a problem.
.
And there are also fat women who are that way because of an unhealthy reason. This could go 'round and 'round.
Yes, but what Nugget is saying (if I were to speak for her!) is that you don't see anyone idealizing a 400lb woman. No one strives to be that woman the way they strive to be thin...ultra thin, even.

Sigh. Industry people express concern about how tiny she is and she rails back that fat people are hypocritical. How did fat people get in this argument?!! Are the industry folks who raised this hue and cry swole? I'm confused. So I'm gonna eat until it becomes more clear to me.
Because it is okay to mock fat people because they brought it on themselves?

Are you being obtuse on purpose? I SAID if you want to complain about Americans idolizing the body types of women who eat donuts all day and are 400 pounds feel free.
Only that's not the American ideal, is it?
Girls don't go around shoving milkshakes in their mouths so they can look like Monique or Rebel Wilson, do they?
No. So that is a total strawman argument and has shit to do with the discussion. Go sat down.
only ONE word in ALL CAPS, Nugget? You can do better than that. At least "GO SAT DOWN."

But they are not saying thin women are hypocrites. You like to flow into this dig at fat people, it's your mo, but seriously, don't be dense and try to pretend you are making an argument. You are not. This is a point most, including NuggetBride, understand, I am quite sure.

And all I am saying is i don't think it's okay to comment on anyone's body (fat or thin). In some cases maybe your family, but that's it.
IF THEY ARE ENGAGING IN SOMETHING UNHEALTHY, OR ARE AN EXAMPLE OF AN UNHEALTHY INDUSTRY THAT IS DICTATING WHAT AMERICAN GIRLS AND WOMEN FIND TO BE A PERFECT BODY THEN YES YOU SHOULD.
You are getting on my fucking nerves with this nonsense.
Not to mention that the industry itself is appalled at her weight. Which hardly ever happens.

I can see where this is going. Nugget, time to batten down the hatches. The fatties gonna be JUDGED tonight.

Right. This is so not a "why is it okay to comment on a thin person's weight" thing.
