OK, you knew that was a lie. I still hate them, but I love small races! Ran a small (250 people) 5k this morning in Woodbine, GA. My friend puts it on every year in honor of a coworker who was killed by a drunk driver. Proceeds benefit a child advocacy center she worked with.
Anyway, off of a PR by about 30 sec (which I expected, really wasn't feeling it today), but first overall female! Lol The nice (but bad for time/motivation) is the hairpin at 1.5. I could see where the 2nd female was & knew I could cut back & slack for the final half. I'm not even going to look at my splits. :/ I'm happy with the PR I got last week. That was enough for me, so yay for small races in BFE GA!!
CONGRATS! I love small 5ks too (well, I hate 5ks, but love small races). I woke up one morning last fall and my SIL called me and asked if I wanted to run a 5k in nearby neighborhood. It started in 20 minutes. I brushed me teeth, washed my face, picked her up & we went to run for fun/catch up. turns out, I placed too
I totally could have won the 5k I ran this morning (so freaking small, but for a great cause), but I was running with my friend in his very first race ever. So... I'll take the 30:40.
Hell yeah you did!!!! You might have to give up the "I hate 5Ks" schtick before too long, missy! How did it feel before the turn around where you saw #2? Were you freaking??
Awesome!! What was your time? I have a secret desire to win for my age group in our local 5k this year. :-D
Ya know, I didn't even check my final official time. Lol Garmin said 22:21, so nothing that would typically get me even an age group win, and not a PR. The power of small town races! There are crazy fast 5kers where I live, so it was a huge benefit to be in a small town, an hour north. I actually have more awards for halves & a full, than 5ks. They are not my strength. I'm better at distance.
kams, I had no intention of even PRing, so I was just sort of surprised, and then thought, "Well this will be fun." Lol I had a feeling it wouldn't be a fast group, when none of the females were lining up towards the front. Then I knew I was in front by a bit, but in the end, I had it by a minute or two. If a female was close at the turn around, I would have had to hurt & fight for it.
Love of my life baby boy born 11/11. One and done not by choice; 3 years of TTC yielded 4 MMC and 2 CPs, through 4 IUIs and 2 IVFs. Focusing on making the world a better place instead...and running.
Oh, I forgot the best part about yesterday! There is totally a Shalane in the making in south GA. A 7 yr old won the under 14 category with a 26 minute 5k. 7 years old! She crossed the finish line smiling, and not breathing very hard at all. She was very "What? I ran a few miles. No big." Girl was not even racing. So damn cute.
