H and I need a hotel for 2 nights in NY mid-May. We'll be sightseeing and also hanging out with friends who are in Chelsea and Williamsburg, so I'm thinking somewhere generally downtown or in the closer parts of Brooklyn. I won't give a specific $ budget because I know NY is crazy expensive, but in normally-priced cities I try to keep hotels under $200/night. Can be big or boutique as long as it's somewhere we're happy to come back to in terms of comfort, service, design, etc. although it doesn't need to be the most amazing hotel room ever since we probably won't spend much time in it.

We've stayed at the Cosmopolitan in Tribeca several times. It's been renovated since we were there. The best part is that it's right on a subway line entrance, the bad part is that it has the slowest elevator in the world. Just a note, sometimes the prices are well above the $200 price range, but I have seen rooms under. It just depends on the dates you go, I guess.
Priceline!! I always put in for 4 star, in the area I want and the most I have paid is 175.00 a night and that is only because I made a stupid mistake when doing that one!
