I was working with my trainer this morning. I struggle with the rear delt fly. I just can't get the form right, it feels super awkward and I can only use really light weights. We've been working on it for a few weeks, but I just can't get it. I always end up looking like a drunken pigeon flapping my wings trying to fly.
So we really slowed it down today, he showed me the form a bunch of times, gave me tips, tried to help, and we went way light on the weight, and I still suck at them. We tried just doing bent arm lateral raises, and I suck at those too, though not as bad. So he said that I just have a deltoid weakness that I need to work on.
So what is my first thought? - I can't possibly have a weakness, and maybe I should go to the chiropractor for an adjustment.
Maybe I just need to get over myself, follow his instructions, do the light weights, work on my form, and build my strength up... but maybe I'll still make an appointment with the doctor, you know, just to be sure.

We do have suspension trainers. He gave me a list of different exercises I can do, both with free weights and on the machines too. It was pretty humbling to really struggle with something that looks so easy!

You might have some kind of impingement, though, too.
I have huge deltoids from swimming for decades, but trust me, when we do deltoid exercises at tri club strength training I am the freak for it looking easy. It's a weird muscle. (I have a whole host of other stuff that I have weird weaknesses in.) Don't be too proud to start from the ground up on your weakness. That's how you really improve.
