The movers come to start packing up our house tomorrow, and we will leave a few days after on the 14 hr road trip to our new home. DS is 3.5 and he's always done well on car trips- watches some movies on the iPad, plays with matchbox cars on a tray, etc. DD OTOH is almost 10 mos and hates sitting still. Plus she's facing backwards so there's a limit to how much she can do/see. Any tips as to how to keep her somewhat entertained on the trip? We'll stop of course for food, gas, bathroom breaks, but our time outside of the car will be very limited as we're traveling with our cats (or maybe one adult will stay in a car with the cats while another lets the kids run around?- we'll be driving both of our cars but my sister is flying down to help with the drive- thank goodness!)
And I think we're going to attempt to do the drive in 2 days- is this crazy? We'd love to get 10 hrs in the first day and then have just 4 the second.
We always try to do the majority of the drive while the kids are sleeping. I would leave at bedtime and take shifts driving overnight. Stop for breakfast and to let the kids run around and then do the other four hours. Then have one person stay up with the kids while the others take a nap.

I know that you can't stop much, but I would definitely do lunch at a McDonald's/ChickFila/etc place that has a kids play area....this is more of a tip for the 3.5 yr old.

We will definitely maximize our driving during naptime. Driving overnight is ok with me, but DH has a harder time staying awake while driving at night, so I think we're safer sticking mostly to daytime.
My car is a 4 seater (weird, I know) so DD and DS are right next to each other in he backseat. This could be good in that he can hand her things, and if they start driving each other nuts then DS can switch to DH's car. I think we'll have 2 of the 3 adults on the trip in the car that has DD so that the driver isn't trying to reach back and deal with her.
And we were going to go to target for some new coloring books and snacks, so maybe I'll pick up a Violet doll while we're there.
