I've been lurking here for awhile and started posting this week so I figured it was time to introduce myself. I used to be very active in the knot and nest boards back in the day and jumped ship when they changed the nest format. I'm 37, live about 30 minutes outside of Boston and am married with an almost 6 year old son. Since November 2012 I've lost almost 30 lbs thru diet and exercise (eliptical and walking on the treadmill with some occassional weights). I started running again around Christmas to help with my weight loss and found that in addition to helping with my weight it was also a great stress release. My son has multiple medical issues and life can be an up and down roller coaster with lots of doctor's appointments which is hard because I also work full time. Before running even when I was working out I would find that if he had a bad appointment or test results I would be stuffing my face with junk food. I still occassionally do that, but since starting to run we haven't hit the McDonald's drive thru on the way home from his every 3 week infusions since January which is huge! I ran my first 5K in March and it was a challenge because it was a lot more hilly than I realized and I was still healing from a hip issue so the hills and my hip did not get along. I finished in 42:40 and promptly signed up for another 5K in late May with the goal to beat the 42:40 time.
I'm sure I'll have a ton of questions so please bear with me
Welcome! Running is my drug. It took a while for it to happen, but if I don't run for a few days I start to get antsy and very grumpy. It is an awesome stress reliever.
