Coming from STL, Chicago, Oregan and DC. Trying to keep it somewhat central for all, and close to direct flight destinations since it'll only be 3 nights.
In the heat of August, I keep thinking somewhere in Michigan, but I haven't been and have no ideas.
We want to keep the budget moderate, and our plan is to eat and drink good stuff, hike, yoga, and lounge at a pool. Open to other adventures.

Any ideas?
There are many quiet resort towns on the west side of MI that are lovely. You can stay at one and drive to others. Traverse City has an airport and is one of the bigger cute towns. Or people could fly to Chicago and carpool with the Chicago person. Boyne Mountain has an awesome spa (it's pricey but it's my favorite in the whole state). You can hit Mackinac Island one day. Charlevoix, Petosky, Sleeping Bear dunes... I could keep going if you need more info.
We had a girls weekend in Gatlinburg a few years ago. I brought a case of wine (I was coming from KY) and picked up friends who came in from FL, NYC and AL. We rented a 2 BR/2 BA condo for a very reasonable cost (I want to say it was ~$100/per person for 3 nights).
There is a very large outlet mall there, lots of hiking trails, not sure about yoga though.
We ran out of wine. 12 bottles was not enough for 4 women for 3 days!

I was also thinking about the Smokies, but wasn't sure about how the flights would work.
Another possibility from my home state--do islands in Lake Erie. You can fly into Cleveland and then you boat across. My favorite is Kelley's Island, where I spent many summer vacations as a child, but Put in Bay is also popular. KI is quieter (although there is a nice winery--unexpected and good!--and a couple fun places to get drinks in town). PIB is more of a party island IMO. KI has glacial groves, beaches, lots of fun biking, and just a nice laid back atmosphere. There are cute cottages to rent.

We scheduled flights into and out of Knoxville. I drove since it was only about 3 hours from my home, so just picked everyone up at the airport.....and dropped them off on the return.
I wouldn't go to Michigan for that short of a time. It will be hard to get to the best places. Maybe fly to Chicago and go to the Indiana or Michigan coast closest. Love northern MI but it will consume a lot of your time or not be direct flights. Plus it is so expensive in August.
What about Minneapolis? Lots of shopping and restaurants, lakes nearby, I'm sure you can find a spa!
