We adopted our dog the end of January and she was about 36 lbs. They believed she was about 8 months when we got her. I decided to weigh her today and she is only 37 lbs. The shelter and vet said when we got her that she would continue to grow for a while. We feed her 1 cup morning and evening. Should we be concerned?
Is she too thin? Can you see her ribs? Ideally you should be able to feel her ribs, but not see them. And did you weigh her at home? It's hard to weigh dogs accurately on home scales. I would take her to your vet for another weighing on their scale so you have a true comparison. While you're there, you can ask them if her body condition looks ok.
We give her Natural Balance. 1 cup in the morning and another in the evening. We can feel her ribs but not see them. And yes, I weighed her on our home scale. I will head to the vet soon and see what her weight is there to compare and see what they think. It just seemed like everyone (shelter, vet, trainers we met with) kept saying she would continue to grow and she really hasn't. hamster hearing your dog stopped gaining at 9 months makes me feel better.

Then I bet she's ok. We've rescued puppies twice, and neither the shelter nor the vet were accurate about their final weight/size. They don't always know. Also, smaller dogs reach their full weight faster than larger dogs. A 37-pound dog could be slowing way down on its growth at this point. I don't think it's worrisome. Our dogs are in the 40s and I think they were also pretty close to their full weight by 9 months. They grew/gained a bit more before their first birthdays, but not a ton.
Agreed. The food quantities sound fine, and it seems like she's in good condition. I wouldn't sweat too much. I'm sure most would expect my dog to be well over 60 pounds, but he looks extremely healthy, if not a tad overweight. It may just be the size your dog will be!
