Started the injections Thursday night but I made H do the actual stabbing for the first few days. It was a little tricky figuring how to mix everything (Menopu powder + liquid + Gonal F) but I got the hang of it soon.
Tonight, since H is leaving town tomorrow, I decided I would try stabbing myself...which I did in the kitchen right now (more counter space than the bathroom). It didn't even hurt. So if you ever have to inject yourself, have no fear.
By the by, can I get a sharps container at the pharmacy? I have all these used needles in a bag and no place to put them.

Yay! I found it way easier to stab myself than have DH do it. Do you have the Gonal-F pen or just mixing it with the menupur? Mixing the drugs is a PITA?
You can probably get a sharps at the pharmacy? Mine came with my drugs in the mail.

I had to test my blood sugar for two weeks and the nurse told me to put my sharps in an empty soda bottle with a cap and take that to the pharmacy for disposal. Which reminds me, I have a soda bottles with a bunch of used lancets sitting on the counter of my bathroom...

Yes I have the pen, which I was excited about at first because it looked less intimidating than the needle. But I just use that to mix with the Menopur and then stab myself with a regular needle.

You don't need to buy a sharps container. I recommend using a thicker plastic or metal such as a laundry detergent container or coffee can, and staying away from thinner plastic like milk jugs. When it's full, put the cap/lid back on and duct tape it shut. Throw away in the regular trash. I've worked in 4 different pharmacies, and none of them took back sharps.
I used to give self- injections for my migraines and the neurologist just said to put them in an empty laundry detergent bottle and tape the cap shut when it was full. He just had me throw it in the regular trash though.
I recycle all my laundry detergent bottles. I think I'll just bring the needles in a baggie to the office tomorrow and then look for a container next time I'm at the store.

I'm using the sharps container that came with my first delivery of Lovenox but when it is full I'm doing the laundry detergent thing.
Glad the injections are going well. I agree giving yourself a shot looks way more intimidating than it actually is. I was in hysterics the first few times, now I do it as easily as I brush my teeth.
My mom gets her container from her neurologist because I think the pharmacy ones charge you to dispose or something. Maybe check at the pharmacy and call your dr also?
I had DH give me my first few lovenox as well, but I was leaving town a week after starting, so had to learn to do them myself quick. I found it hurt less when I did it anyway.
Glad you managed OK I had to stab myself in the belly, as DH was freaking out about it. No pain at all.
You can use an empty laundry detergent container for your sharps. Duct tape it shut and it can go in the trash. I believe that's what I was told. Or you can save to take to your RE. Mine said they'd take them.
It was much easier than I thought it would be too! My doc gave me a sharps container and then I just gave it back to them, full, when I was done. good luck!

That's awesome. I was too much of a wimp and couldn't stick myself. I also got a sharps container with my shipment from the pharmacy. Though check locally, we have one pharmacy that will take them as well as the next town over from us has a collection site. My RE would not take them back, but we may have snuck them in anyways :-P
