So I am still feeling so happy after yesterday's race. Short story:
2 minute all time PR (not just post baby...as I feel that deserves it's own category) of 1:46:4X. My previous PR was 1:48:4X set in 2011. Last fall, I came close and missed that by about 4 seconds, which I was thrilled about.
Long story: Going into this, I wasn't feeling confident in my training. A lot of my early weeks were on the treadmill and the weather just plain sucked for training this year. My longest long run was 11 and it didn't go that great - I had to walk a few times. Plus, last week my planned 12 got cut to 6 because of the weather.
Anyway, race day I woke up not having great sleep because DS has been coughing at night. And my in-laws were at my house for the past 4 days so that always makes me edgy. I got to the area for the start line shuttle in plenty of time. I ran into a friend of my brothers who is doing an Ironman this summer. Always amazing. I also met up with a college friend and his wife. She was running the 1/2 and he was bike support so it was nice to see him along the course cheering.
The weather was so perfect. It was about 40 at the start and ZERO wind which seems to never happen. I was nervous about there beign any wind because the course is around a large lake and the open areas could have been bad.
What I did like about this race was wave starts. I started right behind the 1:50 pacers. The first mile was still pretty crowded despite the waves, but I wasn't dodging walkers at least. My first mile was slow - about 8:30, but I felt good and decided to just go with it. Next mile was 7:53. Whoops. Needed to reign it in a bit.
The course had lots of rolling hills which really didn't bother me like I thought they would. It was a really scenic course, but I do enjoy crowd support and there were pockets of it, but often it would be really quiet.
Around the 10 mile mark, I realized that if I kept a 9 minute mile, I would finish with my current PR. I felt good at that point and decided to keep up my pace, but that got harder after each 1/2 mile. I still felt good until about mile 11 when my feet didn't want to go and my hips were really hurting. Plus, the course turned onto a crushed limestone regional trail and I felt like I was running in sand, even though I wasn't.
The best part of all was seeing my kids, H, and mom towards the finish. Seeing my kids smile when they saw it was me was the best. Plus, I knew I was going to PR so it was even better.
I am really sore today, but am thrilled. Thank you all for your support! This board has been a part of all my races and I think of all of you when I am out there.
ETA: finish pic with salty face and uncooperative kids!

Congrats on the PR! I know you've been working on it for awhile, but have had some other priorities too (i.e. those two precious babies in your signature). So glad you were able to surpass your goal. You put up a great time!
That is SO awesome! I know it was a rough spring to train, but you somehow made it all work.
When you consider the time & flexibility you had to train when you set your first PR, it's even more amazing to me that you set a new lifetime PR today. You are Super Runner Mom!! Congratulations Bree.
Weird question: is that a sequin sweaty bands headband?? I've had one in my amazon wish list forever, and can't decide whether to pull the trigger. It looks so cute on you!
Love of my life baby boy born 11/11. One and done not by choice; 3 years of TTC yielded 4 MMC and 2 CPs, through 4 IUIs and 2 IVFs. Focusing on making the world a better place instead...and running.

It's a Bic Band. I had two of them and lost one in the hospital when the kids were born But I do like it!

There is hope that I may one day return to my old pace.

For sure! Only two years later...
But for real, just be patient. I know that's annoying to hear though. At the beginning I just assumed I would never have the time to get back to my old paces.
